Overview The Environmental Quality Specialist I is responsible for executing projects developed by the Environmental Quality Supervisor and Environmental Quality Superintendent. They will participate in the Storm Water Monitoring of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System program by collecting composites and grabbing samples. They will perform regulatory analyses and special projects relating to environmental issues and concerns that may affect the Environmental Health for the City of Corpus Christi. They will assist Hazmat teams with technical assistance on Hazmat cases and coordinate with TCEQ, USCG, GLO, and TPWD investigations.
Responsibilities • Participates in the Storm Water Monitoring of the NPDES program by evaluating monitoring stations and ensuring that they are properly maintained and working, collecting composite and grab samples, and delivering samples to local lab according to specifications
• Assists with hazardous spills that may endanger the municipal separate storm sewer system by evaluating degree of hazard, document pertinent information, monitor the cleanup and remediation of site
• Provides backup to Fire Hazmat team, ensuring drainage systems protection from spills
• Conducts confined space entry by acquiring and maintaining certifications, understanding proper procedures necessary to operate tripod, winch, and atmospheric testing equipment
• Collects data in accordance to NPDES by following permit requirements; successfully implementing procedures of dry and wet weather screening programs, FEMA inspection programs, industrial business inspections, and submitting timely and accurate documentation of programs
• Inspects construction sites for compliance outlined in the Texas Construction General Permit, local municipal ordinances, and codes
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work • Non - Exempt - Full-Time
• Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Qualifications • Associate's Degree (AA/ AS); or two (2) year technical certificate
• Two (2) years of experience
Licenses and Certifications Required • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
