    Overview

    The Public Works Technician III - Channel Maintenance are responsible for the preventative maintenance of the Storm Water infrastructure and drainage system operations.

    Responsibilities

    • Obey all traffic laws while operating fleet vehicle and equipment from one location to another

    • Ability to operate on even or uneven terrain such as streets and earthen rights-of-way

    • Perform daily pre/post trip inspections on all types of equipment and vehicles

    • Maintain all light/ heavy equipment

    • Keep up with vehicle/ equipment services when due

    • Follow the Traffic control standards as per the Texas MUTCD Work Zone Control Guide

    • Direct traffic control at jobsite by Flagging, cones, barrel and barricades

    • Know how to set up message boards, water barrier, Type I, II, II Barricade

    • Repair and maintain drainage right-of-way

    • Perform storm water main, line, and service pipe installations

    • Grading and excavating of earthen ditches, cleaning concrete lined ditches, transportation of rubble and debris from ditches

    • Operate Gradall, Skid Steer, front loader, and/ or other vehicles

    • Perform various routine, semi-skilled construction and maintenance as needed

    • Respond to after hours and weekend emergencies and work under emergency responses during and/ or after any other City emergency event. Examples: Hurricanes, tropical storms, ice storms or any other city emergency. All employees will work on-call duty rotation schedule and must be able to work different rotation shifts under emergency responses

    • Able to lead a team if needed

    • Keep materials stock in vehicle assignment, must communicate when supply/ material are low

    • Able to lead Public Works Technician I and IIs

    • Able to communicate professionally with internal and external customers

    • Ensure proper communication with Foreman, Work Coordinator, Planner/ Scheduler, and Assistant Director

    • Complete daily reports and work orders legibly

    • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

    Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

    • Non - Exempt - Full-Time

    • Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed
    • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

    • In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

    Qualifications

    • High School Diploma/ GED

    • Four (4) years of experience

    Licenses and Certifications

    Required

    • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

    Required Certifications within six (6) months of hire

    • Traffic Control & Flagging

    • Trenching and Shoring

    • Confine Space

    Required within one (1) year of hire

    • City Leadership Program

    Preferred

    • Texas Commercial Driver's License - A with Air Brake Endorsement

    Employment Testing

    Employment is contingent on passing any post-offer pre-employment screening as listed below:

    • Criminal Background Check: Yes

    • Motor Vehicle Record Check: Yes

    • Drug Screening: Yes

    • Physical Exam: Yes

    • Clearinghouse Query: Yes (If candidate have a Class A CDL)

    Basis of Rating

    A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
