Overview The Public Works Technician II - Base will work independently and as part of a team. They are responsible for assisting with the repair and maintenance of public streets, sidewalks, and other infrastructure.
Responsibilities • Follow the Traffic control standards as per the Texas MUTCD Work Zone Control Guide
• Direct traffic control at jobsite by Flagging, cones, barrel and barricades
• Know how to set up message boards, water barrier, Type I, II, II Barricade
• Implement basic Traffic Control Procedures
• Set up and remove traffic control devices at job sites
• Load and unload materials
• Conduct flagging for traffic control
• Clean job sites and devices
• Load and unload tools and materials
• Shovel, sweep, rake, smooth and tamp various materials in different stages of construction
• Use air compressor tools such as jackhammers and compactors
• Spray oils from distributors and other equipment as needed
• Operate various street construction/maintenance equipment not limited to but including trucks, rollers, compactors, street brooms, grad-all, motor grader, planers, reclaimers, asphalt, skid steer, and various other street maintenance equipment in the process of repairing and maintaining streets
• Routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment such as cleaning, checking fluid levels, greasing unit, daily trip inspections, and reporting any defects or repairs as needed
• Ground keeps around street maintenance yard: mow grass and use weed eater around obstacles, sweep curb and gutters, remove trash, and dispose of properly
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work • Non - Exempt - Full-Time
• Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Qualifications • High School Diploma/ GED
• Two (2) years of experience
Licenses and Certifications Required • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
Required Certifications within six (6) months of hire • Traffic Control & Flagging
• Trenching and Shoring
• Confine Space
Preferred • Texas Commercial Driver's License - A or B with Air Brake Endorsement

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
