    The Elections Division of the County Clerk-Recorder's Office is gearing up for the June 2, 2026, Primary Election and is seeking to fill approximately ten (10) intermittent positions to support elections that service every voter in Ventura County across all 10 cities.

    This role is ideal for candidates with prior election experience, strong leadership skills, and the ability to provide critical operational and administrative support for the Elections Division. In this role, you will train and oversee subordinate staff, coordinate assignments, organize vote centers, support key projects and participate in the interview and selection process.

    NOTE: Intermittent employees perform temporary work and are paid on an hourly basis.

    Intermittent employees are not regular county employees and are not eligible for county benefits. Additionally, Intermittent employees are limited to working a maximum of 1, 664 hours per fiscal year (July1 - June 30).

    Distinguishing Characteristics:

    This classification is used to fill temporary assignments during local, state, and federal elections.

    PAYROLL TITLES AND APPROXIMATE SALARIES:

    Elections Worker III: $27.00 Hourly

    This classification is pending Board approval.

    AGENCY/DEPARTMENT: County Clerk-Recorder, Elections Division

    The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill current temporary/intermittent positions as well as future Extra Help vacancies. There are currently approximately ten (10) intermittent vacancies in the Elections Division, depending on operational needs.

    TENTATIVE SCHEDULE:

    Opening Date: Monday, February 2, 2026
    Closing Date: Continuous and may close at any time; therefore, the schedule for the remainder of the process will depend upon when we receive a sufficient number of qualified applications to meet business needs.

    Examples Of Duties

    Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
    • Provides operational and administrative support in vote centers and Elections Division Office.
    • Trains, leads, and oversees extra-help staff by coordinating assignments and guiding them through election-related projects and tasks.
    • Organizes vote center locations and serves as a resource and backup to maintain continuity of services.
    • Lead the Elections extra-help staff in projects and assignments
    • Assist extra help staff by explaining procedures and resolving issues and concerns.
    • Assist with the development of maps, training programs, procedural guides and reference materials for election units.
    • Participates in the interview and selection of extra-help staff and supports hiring processes, including review of timecards.
    • Serves as a resource and backup to maintain continuity of services.
    • Set up and coordinates voting site.
    • Travel to vote centers experiencing operational and technical issues to provide troubleshooting support.
    • Provides support and acts as backup to ensure continuity of services.
    • Performs other duties as required.


    Typical Qualifications

    These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.

    EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

    Any combination of education, training, experience equivalent to two (2) years of clerical experience.

    Must have organizational, public speaking, and customer service skills.

    Prior experience working for an Elections division

    NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
    • Incumbents must be able to work flexible hours: early start time, overtime, evenings, holidays, and weekends with little notice and as needed.
    • Be willing and able to perform routine and repetitive tasks which may include sitting or standing for long periods of time.
    • Must be willing and able to work in the Elections Division office and vote center locations throughout Ventura County.

    • Must possess or be eligible to obtain and maintain a valid California driver’s license.


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Thorough knowledge of: modern office methods and practices; record maintenance systems; letter writing and report compilation and public contact techniques.

    Considerable knowledge of: the operations, procedures and practices used in support of the function to which assigned; techniques to expedite or improve clerical tasks and record processing; correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.

    Working skills: depending on assignment, incumbents may be required to demonstrate a certain prescribed proficiency in typing or equivalent word processing/data entry and/or taking/transcribing dictation.

    Thorough ability to: perform and coordinate moderately difficult and responsible clerical work with little or no direct supervision; set up and maintain records and filing systems; extract information from a variety of sources; operate a variety of automated office equipment; accurately perform and proof the transfer of information from one document to another; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; understand, follow and convey written and verbal directions.

Applicants who have been determined to meet the minimum qualifications through the evaluation process will be placed on the eligible list.

    Applicants successfully completing the examination process may be placed on an eligible list for a period of six (6) months.
