    Overview

    The Public Health Nurse provides clinical care, treatment, counseling, and sound judgment using evidence-based practices while utilizing safety protocols, policies, and procedures. This position will oversee clinical operations to ensure quality and compliance in clinical services.

    Responsibilities

    • Provides direct patient and community care while focusing on prevention and population health management

    • Performs patient interviews and history collection, accurately collecting and documenting vital signs and observations, and administering medications and phlebotomy specimens

    • Delivers counselling for healthcare issues and concerns and offering preventative care to ensure all patients are served efficiently and with compassion

    • Identifies any patient concerns, abnormal lab results, abnormal findings, and report as such to the provider/administration

    • Schedules diagnostic testing procedures for patients

    • Reviews labs and test results and potentially administer medications with appropriate approval as needed

    • Collects and analyzes clinical data to create and present reports for meetings, including but not limited to Quarterly Quality Assurance Reports

    • Researches new treatments and clinical recommendations while actively maintaining required Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for licensure

    • Participates in public health conferences to ensure current knowledge of upcoming changes and trends in the public health sector

    • Assists with annual flu drives or any emergency preparedness situations involving the community

    • Responds to Emergency Code calls until Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrive

    • Audits emergency kits to ensure up-to-date supplies, order supplies as needed, and complete requests for destruction when necessary

    • Handles sharps containers strictly following standardized precaution measures

    • Conducts community outreach and providing patient education regarding preventive health services and the management of chronic/acute conditions

    Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

    • Exempt - Full - Time - Monday - Friday - 8:00am-5:00pm

    • Must be available to work additional hours as needed

    • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

    • In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS)

    • Two (2) years of experience

    Licenses and Certifications

    Required

    • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring

    • Registered Nurse License in Texas

    • CPR/First Aid Certified

    Basis of Rating

    A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
