    DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    The Houston Health Department is seeking a Senior Health Education Coordinator to lead the planning, coordination, and implementation of public health education initiatives across internal programs and community-facing efforts. This position serves as a subject matter lead for health education strategy, ensures alignment with evidence-based practices, and supports program teams in developing high-quality, consistent, and effective educational materials and trainings. The Senior Health Education Coordinator plays a key role in advancing departmental priorities, strengthening staff capacity, and improving community health outcomes.

    •Coordinate and lead the development of public health education materials, presentations, toolkits, and trainings across multiple program areas.
    •Plan and facilitate internal and external trainings, workshops, and educational sessions.
    •Ensure health education content is accurate, culturally responsive, accessible, and aligned with public health best practices and departmental standards.
    •Review, edit, and provide technical assistance on educational materials developed by internal programs.
    •Serve as a senior-level resource to program staff on health education theory, youth and adult learning principles, and community engagement strategies.
    •Collaborate with community partners and internal stakeholders to support outreach and education initiatives.
    •Support the evaluation of education and outreach activities by assisting with data collection, reporting, and quality improvement efforts.
    •Coordinate education-related workflows, timelines, and deliverables to ensure timely completion of projects.
    •Assist in the development of standard operating procedures, guidelines, and frameworks for health education activities.
    •Mentor and support junior education staff or coordinators as assigned.
    •Participate in emergency preparedness and public health response efforts as required.
    •Prepare reports, summaries, and documentation related to education activities, outcomes, and performance measures.
    •Represent the Office of Public Health Education in meetings, workgroups, and cross-departmental initiatives.

    WORKING CONDITIONS
    The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required. There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
    Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, Health Education, Biology, Medical Technology or related field.

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    Four (4) years of experience in Public Health Nursing, Health Education, Biology, Medical Technology or a related field such as Medical Social Work are required.

    A Master's degree in Health Education, Medical Technology, Public Health Nursing or Biology and two (2) years of related work experience may be substituted for the above requirements.

    SALARY INFORMATION GENERAL FUNDS
    Grants & Special fund positions are dependent upon continued available funds. If funding is no longer available, employee may be laid off or transferred. Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification

    PAY GRADE: 20
