Telecommunicator – 911 Center (Two Positions)Beacon locations: Beaufort County Sheriff's Office 911 Communications Center. Positions: #432504 and #432524.General Work DescriptionThe 911 Telecommunicator answers incoming 911 calls, non‑emergency administrative lines, and obtains and properly verifies the location where service is needed. The role includes assisting and instructing callers using Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) and fire protocols, gathering necessary information for responders, and utilizing the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system for call processing, dispatching, mapping, monitoring and reporting. The position also operates a computerized, multi‑channel two‑way radio and the telephone system, performs notification and relay communications as required, completes continuing education to maintain certifications, and performs other related duties as assigned. Successful applicants will have strong computer/typing skills, ability to stay focused under stressful emergency situations, and multitask effectively.Physical RequirementsApplicants must be able to sit stationary for extended periods of time and work 12‑hour shifts rotating between day and night.Education, Training and ExperienceHigh‑school graduation documented by a diploma or transcript. New hires will receive a 51‑hour Telecommunicator Certification Course; prior experience in telecommunications will be considered for salary adjustments.
