Position Overview *This is an open and continuous recruitment which will remain open for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days and close without notice once a sufficient pool of highly-qualified candidates has been created. The City of Henderson announces an examination to create an eligibility list and to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Structural Engineer I/II in the Department of Building & Fire Safety/DSC.
*The department will consider and may hire a candidate who is qualified at either the level I (EIT) or level II in the Structural Engineer series. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to one (1) year.
Under general supervision, reviews plans and specifications for structural requirements and code compliance while performing professional structural engineering activities relating to residential, commercial, and industrial projects for the Department of Building and Fire Safety; and performs related duties as assigned.
This classification is distinguished as being the first in the Structural Engineer series. The Structural Engineer I does not require registration as a Professional Engineer. Incumbents may be eligible to non-competitively advance to Structural Engineer II when they are licensed as a Professional Engineer with the State of Nevada and all the requirements of the Structural Engineer II position have been met and verified.
Salary and Benefits: - Competitive Salary Range for Structural Engineer I (EIT) $78,025.16 - $118,971.02 annually and for Structural Engineer II $87,650.78 - 133,647.94 annually; salary placement for non-represented positions is based on a comprehensive compensation review and takes into consideration the candidate's qualifications as well as internal equity*

Minimum Qualifications Minimum Requirements: Structural Engineer I (EIT): - Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field
- Two (2) years of responsible, diversified experience in a civil or structural engineering environment, or an equivalent combination of closely related training and experience
- Must possess a valid registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Examination at the time of application and registration as an Engineering in Training (EIT) within six (6) months of hire
- Must have the ability to obtain registration as a Professional Engineer within the State of Nevada
Minimum Requirements: Structural Engineer II: - Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field
- Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience related to the structural engineering field
- Must possess and maintain valid registration as a Structural or Civil Professional Engineer with the State of Nevada at time of application, or the ability to obtain such registration through reciprocity within six (6) months of hire and as a condition of continued employment
- Must obtain and maintain certification by the International Code Council (ICC) as a Building Plans Examiner within two (2) years of appointment as a condition of continued employment
