    FACULTY EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

    DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY AND GLOBAL CULTURES

    Part-Time Lecturer Pool Position

    POSITION AVAILABLE: The Department of History and Global Cultures seeks one or more part-time lecturers for a pool from which instructors will be considered for teaching appointments as they become available for Fall Semester 2026 and Spring Semester 2027. Teaching appointments are in the disciplines of Anthropology and History, as well as two interdisciplinary majors, Global Studies and History-Social Science (Teacher Preparation Concentration).

    THE DEPARTMENT: History and Global Cultures offers a range of lower- and upper-division undergraduate courses to approximately 250 majors pursuing four undergraduate BA degrees and one graduate MA degree:
    • Anthropology BA
    • Global Studies BA
    • History BA
    • History-Social Science (Teacher Preparation Concentration) BA
    • History MA

    Department faculty also instruct students completing General Education requirements and a Public History Certificate.

    DUTIES OF THE POSITION: Teaching assignments may be in several programs or levels, including lower- and upper-division or graduate courses in diverse historical and anthropological subjects; advanced methods and research skills courses; applied or career fields in public history, cultural resource management, and teaching; and advising or skills labs for student success.     High-impact pedagogies and applied or career emphases are desired, along with inclusive content and teaching that comprehends East Bay’s student demographics. Courses may be in person on the Hayward campus, hybrid, or online. The policy and expectation of the California State University is that all faculty members will perform all of their duties within the state of California.

    RANK AND SALARY: Lecturer. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Position appointment is subject to budgetary authorization.

    The salary schedule information for the Lecturer - Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:

    Lecturer AY (Range 2) - $5,507 - $6,677

    Lecturer AY (Range 3) - $6,221 - $13,224

    Lecturer AY (Range 4) - $6,825 - $14,523

    Lecturer AY (Range 5) - $8,593 - $15,211

    The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.

    DATE OF APPOINTMENT: Fall Semester begins August 17, 2026; Spring Semester begins January 19, 2027.

    QUALIFICATIONS: M.A. or M.S. in History, Anthropology, or related field required; A.B.D. or Ph.D. in Anthropology or History, or related fields, and university teaching experience is preferred. Demonstrated commitment to student success and innovative teaching, including advanced experience and/or professional development involving the Canvas LMS.

    Condition(s) of Employment

Cal State East Bay will issue a conditional offer of employment to the selected candidate, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Unsatisfactory results may also affect the continued employment of current Cal State East Bay employees who were conditionally offered the position.
