Essential Job Functions What You'll Be Doing: - Interviews and evaluate patients and family members to identify social, emotional, and economic factors which may interfere with acquiring maximum benefits from medical care.
- Develops and details bio-psychosocial assessments and formulates diagnoses and treatment plans based upon evaluation of the patient's past, present and future medical and socioeconomic functioning.
- Provides consultation services to multi-disciplinary team members by evaluating environmental and psychosocial factors related to the patient’s illness. This happens when the team assesses and plans medical treatment.
- Provides orientation and gives instructions to multi-disciplinary health staff to further their understanding of the social worker's role in the treatment process.
- Develops and implements psychosocial therapy modalities for patients applying a variety of therapeutic methods and techniques.
- Confers with representatives of other departments and private agencies to resolve problems and to develop and maintain public understanding and sound working relationships.
- Participates in student affiliate programs for training professional social work students through case assignments and technical instructions.
- Develops and applies resources of public agencies as well as nonprofit and private organizations to meet the needs of the patients.
- Develops and conduct in-service training and staff development programs for social work staff.
- Attends in-service training programs, continuing professional education, seminars and workshops to stay ahead of new trends and techniques used in social work practice.
- Submits recommendations for change to current social work services programs and procedures as needed.
RequirementsREQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY: - A Master's Degree in Social Work from a graduate school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education followed by two years of Clinical Social Work experience*
LICENSE:
- A valid and active license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker issued by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
- A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
*Clinical social work experience in the County of Los Angeles provides professional clinical social work services to patients and families presenting difficult medical and related psychosocial problems in hospitals, clinics, and community ambulatory health care settings.
Desirable qualifications:- Additional points will be awarded for experience in excess of the requirements.
Physical Class II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

Additional InformationEXAMINATION CONTENT: This examination will consist of an evaluation of education, experience, and desirable qualifications based on application information, weighted 100%.
Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on this examination to be added to the eligible register. ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATION: Applicants who passed the assessment(s) are placed on a list in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months. Applications will be processed as they are received and added to the list accordingly. We will use this list to fill vacancies in the Department of Health Services as they occur.
No individual is allowed to participate in this examination more than once within a twelve (12) month period. AVAILABLE SHIFTS: Appointees may be required to work any shift and at any facility, including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
