IT Database Administrator Senior
Purpose:
This position designs, administers, maintains, secures, and improves performance of complex databases.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Designs, analyzes, troubleshoots, and resolves advanced operational and performance-related database issues; coordinates changes; maintains database structures; and assists in developing policies and procedures designed to ensure the integrity of the database environment.
- Designs, coordinates, implements, and determines procedures necessary to save and recover production databases and databases from hardware and software failure.
- Performs database performance monitoring and auditing, implements efficiency improvements, and modifies existing databases and database management systems.
- Designs, configures, and implements database network connectivity working with required technical teams.
- Monitors capacity versus utilization and recommends appropriate action on a timely basis to avoid performance degradation.
- Creates databases and database objects, such as tables, indexes, views, triggers, and stored procedures.
- Tracks database assets and critical information about those assets.
- Assists in development of data security standards to ensure data integrity data security.
- Maintains data standards and prepares and develops database documentation, procedures, and definitions for data dictionaries.
- Creates test database environment for applications section, including the creation of necessary libraries and procedures.
- Installs new software releases and/or upgrades including researching, testing, and implementing new technology.

- Knowledge of industry and department best practices, requirements and policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the advanced principles, practices and techniques of secure computer programming, system design, computer operations, systems and procedures.

- Knowledge of current database technologies.
- Knowledge of Oracle and SQL Server database tools, environments and query languages (SQL, TSQL).
- Knowledge of statistical analysis processes.
- Skill in developing reports and cross references from the data dictionary.
- Skill in performing data modeling and prototyping to implement efficiency improvements.
- Skill database debugging, testing and troubleshooting techniques.
- Skill in selecting and using training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new concepts
- Ability to write Extraction, Transform and Load (ETL) or SSIS tasks for the Extraction, Transformation or Loading (ETL) process.
- Ability to gather, assemble, correlate, and analyze facts.
- Ability to perform a root cause analysis.
- Ability to assess future information needs so that the databases can evolve in an appropriate manner.
- Ability to accurately identify/determine customer needs and take appropriate actions and/or steps to address identified needs.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to the job, plus four (4) years of experience in a related field.
- Experience may substitute for education for up to four (4) years.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience administering Oracle Enterprise database in Linux and/or IBM AIX environments, including installation, configuration, patching, upgrades and lifecycle management.
- Experience with Oracle high-availability technologies, including Real Application Clusters (RAC), Automatic Storage Management (ASM) and Oracle Data Guard.
- Experience designing, implementing, and supporting Oracle backup, recovery, business continuity, and disaster recovery solutions utilizing RMAN and related technologies.
- Experience with Oracle Multitenant Architecture, including Container Databases (CDB) and Pluggable Databases (PDB).
- Experience monitoring, troubleshooting, and tuning Oracle database environments, including SQL performance tuning, execution plan analysis, and capacity planning.
- Experience designing, implementing and supporting Oracle Goldengate replication and change data capture.
- Experience installing, configuring, and utilizing Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) and other enterprise monitoring tools.
- Experience developing administrative automation scripts using shell, PowerShell or similar technologies.
- Experience administering mission-critical, highly available (24x7) database environments supporting enterprise systems and applications.
- Experience administering Microsoft SQL Server database supporting commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) applications.
Other:
The ability to travel to more than one work location.

The IT Database Administrator Senior is responsible for the administration, maintenance, security, performance, availability, and recoverability of enterprise database systems.
This position serves as both an infrastructure and application database administrator, providing technical leadership for Oracle database environments, including Oracle RAC, ASM, and related database technologies.
Responsibilities include database installation and configuration, patching and upgrades, backup and recovery, performance tuning, troubleshooting, monitoring, capacity planning, support of business-critical applications.
This position works closely with application teams, systems administrators, vendors, and business stakeholders to ensure reliable, secure and highly available database services supporting the organization.
Work Location/Schedule:
- Austin, Texas 78723 - Hybrid; Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. - 40 Hour Work Week.
- Additional work hours may be required to support the 24-hour Utility operations, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, inclement weather, and emergency closures.
Salary:
$85,120.00 - $109,400.00 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.

Travel:
If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.
