POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Senior Cashier has immediate charge of a large cashiering group engaged in the receipt and disbursement of cash, valuables, and negotiable instruments. Responsibilities include the supervision of a large cashiering unit or by its responsibility for assisting in the direction of the activities and personnel of a large cashiering division requiring the supervision of large numbers of recurrent personnel during peak collection periods.

Essential Job Functions

ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Receives collections made by cashiers and totals and balances receipts, accounting for any discrepancies.

Creates daily deposit reports, prepares deposit receipts and checks deposit vouchers with letters of transmittal.

Supervises and has immediate responsibility for the maintenance of records, funds and valuables received and the preparation of reports through an automated process.

Responsible for revolving funds, issuance of banks, and safekeeping of checks.

Supervises the receipt, chain of custody, and transfer of daily collections.

Prepares regular and special reports such as complete reports of transactions and statements of collections through an automated process.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY:

Three (3) years of office clerical experience, two (2) years of which must have been in the handling of cash receipts or disbursements and in the keeping of cash records.

PHYSICAL CLASS:

2 - Light : This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Additional points will be awarded if you possess any of the following desirable qualifications.

  • Work experience in a supervisory clerical capacity at the level of* Los Angeles County Supervising Clerk** or higher.
  • Two years of experience performing cash-handling or financial operations in a high-volume environment involving approximately 100-150 transactions per day and/or large cash receipts or deposits.
  • Experience preparing, reviewing, reconciling, and verifying cash-handling, deposit, or financial transaction records and reports, including identifying and resolving discrepancies.
  • Experience processing multiple payment methods while maintaining established internal controls and security procedures.
  • Experience using automated cashiering, point-of-sale, financial, or accounting systems to process and track transactions.

**Los Angeles County Supervising Clerk is defined as experience supervising and performing a variety of general and specialized office clerical work. Has full responsibility for the day-to-day supervision of subordinate staff; assigning and reviewing the work of staff, evaluating employee performance, participating in interviewing and selecting new staff, and performance management.

EXAMINATION CONTENT

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE (T&E) EVALUATION: This examination will evaluate the training, experience and desirable qualifications you list on a questionnaire and assign a score based on a standardized scoring system. This assessment is worth 100% of your total score. Additional points will be awarded to qualified applicants who demonstrate any of the Desirable Qualifications in their response on the Supplemental Questionnaire.

APPLICANTS MUST RECEIVE A PASSING SCORE OF 70% OR HIGHER ON THE ASSESSMENT TO BE ADDED TO THE LIST.

ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATION:

Applicants who passed the assessment are placed on the eligible list for a period of six (6) months. We will use this list to fill vacancies in the RR/CC as they occur. Appointees may be required to work any shift, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
