Education and Experience : Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or related field, and four (4) years of professional engineering experience in industrial facility systems, including two (2) years of experience as a Registered Professional Engineer, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.
Licenses and Certificates: Valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License or equivalent from another state by the time of appointment. Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas by the time of application, or equivalent transferable from another state having reciprocity, which must be converted to Texas registration within one (1) year of appointment.
General Purpose
Under general direction, manage and lead the design, development, and implementation of electrical engineering projects, plans, and specifications.
Typical Duties
Manage complex electrical engineering projects and execute programs. Involves: evaluating systems that produce electricity with renewable energy sources, such as wind, solar, or biofuels; evaluating design standards of electrical components for water and wastewater infrastructure; reviewing design plans and specifications for compliance with codes; and preparing cost estimates. Ensure quality control. Resolve conflicts. Collaborate and meet with consultants, contractors, regulatory agencies, City departments, and other internal departments to coordinate activities and projects. Prepare engineering calculations, plans, and specifications. Design Utility-related facilities, collect data, and perform project research related to project and operational costs and efficiency analysis. Compile analytical data and provide reports regarding existing or potential electrical engineering studies or projects. Prepare energy consumption analysis and provide recommendations for improvements.
Perform project management activities. Involves: developing the scope of work and providing technical reviews of projects. Schedule project elements and evaluate proposals. Prepare reports, correspondence, and recommendations. Monitor project progress, funding, and recommend project selection. Perform construction inspections and participate in commissioning of facilities; review and process payment requests from consultants and contractors. Manage construction and perform contract management work; evaluate bid documents. Maintain correspondence with contractors, review submittals, and interpret drawings and technical specifications. Evaluate work for compliance with contract provisions. Review and respond to requests for information. Review change order requests and prepare documentation for approval. Participate in community meetings and outreach efforts. Prepare and deliver presentations related to projects or initiatives.
Supervise assigned staff. Involves: Schedule, assign, instruct, and check work. Appraise employee performance and review evaluations by subordinates. Provide employee training and development; enforce personnel rules and regulations, and work behavior standards firmly and impartially. Counsel, motivate, and maintain harmony. Interview applicants and recommend hiring, termination, transfers, discipline, or other employee status changes. Enforce safety rules and regulations.
