The San Bernardino County Fire Protection District , Office of the Fire Marshal is recruiting for a Front Counter Technician who, under the general direction of the Assistant Fire Marshal, is responsible for issuing Fire Prevention, Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA) or Participating Agency (PA) permits or Fire Hazard Abatement compliance; receiving and scheduling requests for inspections; and assisting customers with application, permit and technical questions regarding the submittal process and enforcing code compliance related to abatement. Additional duties include calculating plan check fees and or regulatory violation fees; evaluating and verifying all required submittals; maintaining accurate computer records on various permits and or enforcement actions; and researching and compiling data.

Community Safety - The Community Safety Division of The Office of the Fire Marshal is dedicated to fostering a secure environment through education, engineering, and enforcement of fire codes.
Hazmat - The Hazardous Materials Section of the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District is designated by the State Secretary for Environmental Protection as the Certified Unified Program Agency or "CUPA" for the County of San Bernardino in order to focus the management of specific environmental programs at the local government level.
Fire Hazard Abatement - The Fire Hazard Abatement Section of the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District's primary goal is to reduce wildfire risk by establishing defensible space and removing flammable materials from properties.

The resulting eligible list will be used to fill vacancies as they occur throughout the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM). The current vacancy exists in Fire Hazard Abatement . Indicate your program experience in the Supplemental Questionnaire.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Pre-Employment Process: A successful background check is required prior to assignment.
Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.

Work Hours: May occasionally require working overtime, weekends, and/or holidays for special events.

Minimum Requirements

Experience:
One (1) year of full-time customer service experience which includes a combination of the following administrative or customer service support functions:

• Explaining program procedures, requirements, notices, deadlines, fees, or related information.
• Reviewing forms, applications; scheduling inspections, appointments; and receiving and processing complaints, permits, or requests for service.
• Entering and maintaining information in automated or case-management systems.
• Researching and verifying information, such as parcel numbers, property ownership, addresses, or related records.
• Preparing correspondence, notices, reports, records, or other administrative documentation/packets.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess experience in processing fire, building, or other construction related permit applications, or fire abatement as well as excellent customer service and organizational skills demonstrated in a fast-paced environment. Possession of related CA State Fire Marshal (Community Safety), International Code Council or CUPA, (HAZMAT) course certificates are also desired.
