TITLE: Skate GuardPOSITION TYPE: Part Time - Non-ExemptCOMPANY: Sharks Sports and Entertainment, LLCLOCATION: Oakland Ice CenterREPORTS TO: Assistant General ManagerPOSTING DATED: September 2026Pay Range: $22.57 per hourPosition SummaryThe Skate Guard is responsible for ensuring the safe operation and maintenance of the ice arena. This role involves monitoring public skating sessions, providing customer service, maintaining equipment, and performing general upkeep duties. The Skate Guard must be proactive in ensuring the safety and satisfaction of all guests at Sharks Ice.Shift InformationYou must be available to work 2/3rds of each month, including evenings and weekends with some holidays.Essential FunctionsMaintains rental skates, boots, blade and boot replacement/repair.Monitors all public session skating events both on and off the ice to ensure safety and respond to customer needsAssists in the general maintenance and upkeep of the ice arena area including: sweeping, cleaning, and other custodial duties.Provides excellent customer service at all times, and ensures that all policies are properly implemented.Tends the skate rental counter and issues equipment during public skating sessions and birthday parties.Maintains rental skates, boots, blade and boot replacement/repair.Knowledgeable of session times, rink information, and general information.Reports any issues or problems to supervisor on dutySkates on the ice as needed.Knows emergency procedures for equipment and facility evacuation plan.Ensures the overall cleanliness of Oakland Ice Center.Performs additional duties as required.QualificationsBasic knowledge of ice skating and skate maintenance.Must be able to wear SSE assigned uniform during all shiftsProficient ice skater is preferred.Prior ice rink experience is preferred.Must be able to successfully perform the essential functions of this job that are physically demanding.Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.Must be able to work in a cold environment.What We Offer$200 employee referral bonus for each friend hired30% discount in the Sharks Pro ShopFood and beverage discount at SAP Center, TechCU Arena, and Stanley'sFree Barracuda tickets to most gamesFree ice skating at Sharks Ice (San Jose, Fremont, and Oakland)Spot Pet InsuranceFun environmentSummaryBorn in 1991, Sharks Sports and Entertainment ("SSE") has grown into a multi-faceted organization that includes the SAP Center, the NHL San Jose Sharks, the AHL San Jose Barracuda, the Tech CU Arena, three Sharks Ice facilities, and the non-profit Sharks Foundation.
