Summary

The County of Santa Barbara is seeking an experienced probation executive to serve as its next Deputy Chief Probation Officer and join a highly collaborative, forward-thinking executive leadership team. The selected DCPO is anticipated to initially oversee either Adult Community Supervision Services or Adult Pretrial and Court Services and will have broad responsibility for organizational leadership, personnel development, budget and resource management, operational improvement, policy implementation, and countywide collaboration.

Job Description

The Department is recognized for innovation, progressive probation practices, and consensus-based executive decision-making. Current initiatives include modernization of its case management system, use of artificial intelligence to support report summarization, capital improvement projects, and continued adaptation to evolving legislative requirements.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will bring significant senior management experience, broad probation knowledge, strong executive judgment, and demonstrated success leading complex programs and teams. California experience is highly desirable. The successful candidate must be willing to relocate to the Tri-Counties area and become an engaged member of the Santa Barbara County community.

Additional Information

Salary: $171,701 – $219,136 Annually

The County may provide hiring and relocation incentives up to $30,000, subject to approval. Following an initial onboarding period, flexible scheduling options may also be considered, including a 9/80 schedule and limited remote work opportunities as operationally appropriate.
