Job Description
OverviewUnder the direct supervision of the Animal Care Services (ACS) Field Supervisor. The Animal Care Officer (ACO) Lead provides functional supervision over field operations including ACOs and ACS Investigators. Will provide leadership and training to assigned staff ensuring they have a clear understanding of job duties. Responsible for delegation of task and duties for staff. Will be in rotation for on-call addressing issues from Officers working overnight.
Responsibilities
• Responding to calls for services concerning animals domestic and wildlife
• Proactively patrol city enforcing the city's ordinances, issuing warnings and or citations
• Safely and humanely captures and transports animals including but not limited to those that are stray, sick, injured or potentially dangerous
• Writes detailed reports of actions taken on each call worked and input information into Chameleon
• Provides front line leadership to assigned staff from multiple divisions under direction of Animal Care Services (ACS) Supervisor
• Delegates assignments and assists in the development and advancement of ACS Operations
• Leads by example while working directly with staff as needed; knowledgeable of different divisions within ACS and able to assist in areas of need
• Develops training to advance the expertise of Animal Care Services employees
• Assists the ACS Field Supervisor with enforcement of local and state laws concerning animal welfare and sheltering
• Ensures communicating with departments, stakeholders, public, etc.
• Assists the ACS Field Supervisor in the development and continuation of training for ACS staff
• Conducts training for the Animal Control Officers (ACO) and Animal Care Investigators to ensure proper protocols and updated ACO practices and duties are being followed
• Daily interaction with customers in the field and at the facility
• Required to have excellent customer services with the ability to handle complaints or irate customers in person or via phone and resolve issues effectively
• Responsible for monitoring equipment issued to staff and ensures it is maintained in good working order
• Maintains inventory records of items needing to be ordered
• Utilizes a City P-Card to purchase supplies and equipment as needed and maintains record keeping and processes statements
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
• Non-Exempt - Full-Time Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Qualifications
• High School Diploma / GED
• Two (2) years of experience
Licenses and Certifications
Required
• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
Required at time of hire
• Euthanasia Certification
• Lobal Rabies Control Authority (LRCA) Certification
• Dangerous Dog Investigation Certification
• FEMA IS-10. a & 11.a
• NACA ACO 1 and ACO 2
Required within eighteen (18) months of hire
• National Cruelty Investigation Level 3 Certification

Basis of Rating
A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
