Job Description

Position Information

The Brentwood Police Department is seeking a highly motivated and service-oriented individual who is eager to join a professional, progressive department that takes pride in providing exceptional service to the community. The Brentwood Police Department is committed to equipping its employees with the training, resources, technology, and support necessary to successfully perform their duties.

This position provides a wide variety of non-sworn public safety and support services that are essential to the daily operations of the Police Department. Responsibilities may include parking enforcement, vehicle abatement, prisoner booking and transportation, responding to assigned calls for service, report writing, fingerprinting, traffic control, and narcotic offender and sex offender registrations.

The position involves a significant amount of direct interaction with members of the public and requires an individual who can communicate professionally and effectively with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and circumstances. Candidates must be able to remain calm, exercise sound judgment, and communicate clearly and respectfully during challenging, emotionally charged, and high-stress situations. Strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills are essential, as employees will routinely interact with members of the public who may be frustrated, upset, or experiencing difficult circumstances.

The Department currently has immediate vacancies on night and weekend shifts, and applicants should be prepared to work schedules that include evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and other non-traditional hours based on operational needs.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training:
  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.

Experience:
  • One year of work experience that demonstrates a general aptitude for working with the public in a multi-task environment.

License or Certificate:
  • Possession of a valid driver's license

The examination process will consist of: Application Screening - Review of applications for completion, minimum qualifications for the position, and to ensure all materials have been submitted, if applicable.Written Exam - Applicants possessing these requirements will be invited to take the written test. The examination will cover elements of the knowledge and abilities identified in the job description. Tentatively scheduled to take place the week of November 9, 2026. Eligible List - All applicants that pass the examination process will be placed on the eligible list which is good for at least 6 months and may be extended up to an additional 18 months. This eligible list will be used by the City of Brentwood to fill all current and future openings in this classification as long as the list is active.Panel Interview - Top candidates are invited to interview with the BPD leadership team. This is an opportunity to demonstrate your professionalism, values, communication skills, and commitment to the community. Preparation is encouraged, as first impressions matter. Tentatively scheduled for the week of November 2, 2026.Polygraph Examination - Candidates who advance in the process will participate in a standard pre-employment polygraph examination. The examination is used to verify the accuracy and completeness of information provided during the application and background process. Honesty and accuracy throughout the recruitment process are essential.Captain’s Interview - The most qualified candidates advance to a Captain’s Interview, providing an opportunity for a more in-depth discussion regarding the candidate’s background, goals, experience, and fit with the Brentwood Police Department’s culture and mission.Background Investigation - A comprehensive background investigation will be conducted, including a review of employment history, references, financial information, criminal history, and character. The background process typically takes several weeks, and candidates should remain available and responsive throughout the process.Conditional Offer - Candidates who successfully complete the background investigation may receive a conditional offer of employment. Candidates will then be scheduled for a medical evaluation and psychological evaluation.
