Do you have the desire to make a meaningful impact by engaging with a vibrant and diverse community through a world class public library system? The City of Irvine seeks multiple collaborative and customer service oriented individuals to take on the role of Part-time Library Assistant I in Irvine’s new public library system.
The Library Assistant will provide a wide variety of paraprofessional and technical library assistance to the public under direct or general supervision. Please note that this position will require evening and weekend shifts
Your Impact
- Assist library customers in the use of library services and technology and provide basic information and research assistance to the public.
- Assist with collection maintenance as directed.
- Assist with implementing general library programming and other library-related activities.
- Assist with interpreting and applying library policies and procedures for customers.
- Participate in community and outreach events as directed.
Minimum Qualifications
- College coursework in library services, community services or related field with four years of increasing responsible experience of advanced clerical, technical, or paraprofessional library services experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license.
- Ability to possess or obtain a First Aid and CPR certification within three months of employment is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or one-year of experience working in a library as a Library Assistant or higher. College level coursework in Library Science or a related field is highly desirable.
- Ability to apply City Library policies and procedures.

The City of Irvine was incorporated on December 28, 1971, under the general laws of the State of California. We operate under a charter law form of government which was adopted in 1975, meaning we have a City Council-City Manager form of government. The City Manager is appointed by the City Council to function as the chief administrator of the City.
