    Job Summary

    Reporting to the Associate Director- Architectural Trades & Auto Services and under lead work direction provided by the Facilities Project Supervisor, the Facility Worker II independently performs a wide range of semi-skilled and basic skilled facilities and related systems and infrastructure maintenance, repair and renovation work which does not require journey-level skills. The incumbent must be able to perform basic trade work in three or more trades; analyze and troubleshoot problems across multiple trade functions; perform necessary repairs independently; and perform other related facilities and systems support functions as assigned.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Performs a wide range of semi-skilled and basic skilled facilities and related systems and infrastructure maintenance, repair and renovation work which does not require journey-level skills Performs semi-skilled duties using hand tools, power tools and equipment associated with the trades
    • Troubleshoots, maintains, and performs minor repair and adjustments of various hardware
    • Uses hand and power tools for the completion of various types of preventive maintenance and related repairs
    • Participate in the maintenance and operations of a shop and work areas; clean, maintain and service tools and equipment used in the performance of duties
    • Inspects various types of equipment, systems, and areas to identify problems and needed repairs
    • Consults, coordinates, and works with other trade workers, trade shops, and FD&O units, as needed successfully complete repairs and maintenance work assignments on schedule
    • Unlocks and secures facility areas to access equipment, items to be renovated, repaired and/ or maintained
    • Reports problems and needed repairs to be documented and scheduled
    • Disables and clearly identifies (lock out and tag out) unsafe equipment, and immediately notify appropriate personnel
    • Responds promptly to and assists with emergency situations or urgent needs in order to prevent injury, damage or further incident. Responds to miscellaneous trouble calls as assigned


    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Operates radio or other assigned communication devices for communication of urgent needs, critical information and status updates
    • Operates utility cart, pick-up truck, welding equipment, scissor lift, forklift, and other equipment, as certified, to access, repair, and transport personnel, equipment and materials
    • Records work efforts in detail within computerized recordkeeping systems and, where directed, on log sheets, and keeps accurate time records so as to ensure an appropriate level of documentation regarding actions taken to complete assignments
    • Broad knowledge and ability to perform semi-skilled and basic trades work in three or more trades
    • Basic knowledge of theories, codes, procedures and general trade practices in the applicable trade areas
    • Comprehensive knowledge of specific methods, practices, and tools related to facilities and systems maintenance and repair in areas such as plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, painting, and mechanical systems
    • General knowledge of applicable trade safety practices
    • Ability to implement a positive customer service approach, with a commitment to high ethical standards, while maintaining focus on solving problems or issues effectively and in a professional manner
    • Ability to operate a motor vehicle, utility cart, scissor lift, boom lift, and forklift (as certified) and other equipment and tools required to successfully complete assignments


    Required Qualifications
    • Any combination of experience and training equivalent to three years of hands-on experience in general facilities and systems maintenance and repair, or comparable experience as a trades assistant or laborer with demonstrated proficiency in the required duties
    • Must participate in all OSHA required physicals and examinations
    • Requires the possession of a valid California Driver's License for the operation of any vehicle or equipment required for position and in any emergency situation


    License

    A valid driver's license is required for this position. Out of state candidates selected for the position must obtain a State of California driver's license within 10 days of hire in accordance with the California Department of Motor Vehicles regulations.

    Once hired the employee must successfully complete the Defensive Driver Training Program provided by the State of California for California State University campuses.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Knowledge equivalent to a basic understanding of at least three skilled trades areas of work
    • Certification indicating completion of portions or all aspects of a program designed to provide education related to the building trades
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Five years of hands-on experience in general facilities and systems maintenance and repair, or comparable experience as a trades assistant or laborer with demonstrated proficiency in the required duties
    • Experience in the maintenance of a State facility, College or University or other commercial, multi-facility complex


    Compensation

    Classification: Facilities Worker II
    Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,577/month - $5,689/month
    CSU Salary Range: $4,760/month - $6,665/month

    Work Schedule

    Selected candidates will be placed in one of the following shifts based on operational needs.

    Tuesday - Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
