    The LA County Board of Supervisors recently declared a local state of emergency for homelessness , and the County is working to revise and expand our response to help all who are affected. We are looking for qualified and passionate individuals to help us in the mission of addressing issues like housing, mental health, and substance use.     The County of Los Angeles Fire Department is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Senior Nursing Instructor vacancies related to the homelessness crisis.

    Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.

    Before the end of your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.

    Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Senior Nursing Instructor.

    DEFINITION :
    Provides comprehensive in-service education services to a nursing organization.

    CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS :
    Positions allocable to this class identify and analyze the training needs of a specific category or group of employees develop planning procedures, and training programs to meet their training needs, and conducts or arranges for the conduct of such programs as well as the evaluating of their effectiveness. Senior Nursing Instructors may be assigned to an in-service or other specialized education program. Senior Nursing Instructors normally work under the general technical and administrative supervision of a Nurse Education Director. They provide a full range of training of educational services to a particular segment of a large organization, or have responsibility for the development and implementation of a highly specialized and complex training or educational program throughout several segments of a large organization. Senior Nursing Instructors, In-Service, are expected to be skilled in training need identification and analysis, training program development, the conduct of instruction, and the evaluation of training effectiveness. In additions they must be able to deal effectively with subject matter which may be highly specialized and complex, or cover a wide range of nursing technology, including the scientific principles on which such technology is based, in addition to supervisory and management principles and practices.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Assists Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Program Heads in the development of educational course content and the selection of teaching methods for prehospital care providers (e.g., EMTs, paramedics, dispatchers) in a specific geographical field division or specialty unit (e.g., Air Operations, lifeguards, dispatchers, advanced and basic life support personnel).
    • Researches the training needs of prehospital care providers on an on-going basis.
    • Presents training programs and instruction to prehospital care providers on a variety of topics that vary in complexity (e.g., prehospital knowledge and skills).
    • Evaluates patient care provided by prehospital care providers.
    • Leads prehospital care providers in the successful implementation of prehospital care policies and procedures, presentation, and classroom management skills.
    • Drives department-issued vehicles to various areas in Los Angeles County.


    Requirements

    SELECTION REQUIREMENTS :
    Two years' nursing education experience as a Nursing Instructor* or its equivalent.

    LICENSE:
    • A license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.**
    • A valid California Class "C" Driver License is required to perform job-related essential functions.***

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
    *A Nursing Instructor is defined as someone who develops specialized training programs or educational course content for a group of employees, presents this content in a formal learning situation, supervises its application in a clinical setting, and evaluates effectiveness of the training in achieving predetermined training objectives under technical supervision.

    **License/Certificate Information: Applicants for this position are required to include a copies of the required licenses at the time of filing or within fifteen (15) calendar days of submitting their online application.

    ***Successful applicants for this position will be required to obtain and present a copy of their driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before being appointed. Applicants should not present a copy of their driving history until asked to do so by the hiring department. The County will make an individualized assessment of whether an applicant's driving history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job. License must not be currently suspended, restricted, or revoked.

    PHYSICAL CLASS :
    3 - Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
