    Job Summary

    Elections in Arizona are conducted at the county level.

    The Mohave County Recorder’s Office manages all aspects of mail voting, voter registration, in-person early voting and petition verification for the entire county. We are the 5 th largest voting jurisdiction in Arizona with about 170,000 registered voters!

    This position is located in Kingman, AZ in the Mohave County Administration Building on the second floor. The starting rate of pay is $19.13 per hour with a Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm work schedule. The Recorder's Office has blackout dates during election season, as well as mandatory overtime. Overtime can consist of about 20 hours per pay period during peak election season and employees may be required to work holidays such as President’s Day and Columbus Day, as well as weekends during election years. The Voter Registration Division has 5 fulltime employees they are a lively bunch and is dedicated to the work they do to support our voters. Functions include pinpointing residential addresses and working with the public and other county departments to locate voter residences. This position also maintains our National Change of Addressing software and will be performing mail merges. They will manage our internal GIS database within the Voter Registration system to ensure accuracy.

    There will be required travel throughout the County during election seasons and may make periodic trips to other AZ cities for training or outreach events. Public speaking may consist of hosting trainings for temporary employees and assisting in hosting outreach events. This is a customer service-oriented position. Role is required to assist voters in-person, over the phone, through email correspondence and at a voting location when necessary.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Inspects, examines, tracks and updates voters.
    • Printing and mailing of early ballots for Active Early Voting List (AEVL).
    • Performs skilled tasks utilizing specialized equipment to process and prepare vote by mail ballots and mailing of voter materials.
    • Responsible for accurate updates and/or audits for Voter Registration.
    • Provides information to staff and to the general public concerning voter registration and voting laws, rules, and regulations.
    • Provides information to staff relative to early voting.
    • Process requests for ballot mailings.
    • Performs specialized clerical and office duties including receiving, sorting, indexing, filing, and retrieving forms, document preservation and destruction.
    • Communicates and acts in a professional manner with the public, co-workers, and work contacts


    Minimum Qualifications

    • High School Diploma/GED (General Education Degree).
    • Two (2) years’ experience performing advanced secretarial, administrative, or clerical tasks.
    • OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications.

    SPECIAL JOB REQUIREMENT
    Must be a registered voter of Mohave County.
    Must be Arizona State Certified in elections within two years of employment.
    Must have handwriting analysis classes within two years of employment.
    Must possess a valid driver’s license for operation of motor vehicles on Arizona roads at the start of employment and maintain said license while employed in this position.
    Provide acceptable driving history at no cost to the County.

    • Voter Registration and mail voting procedures.
    • Local, state, and federal election laws, rules, and regulations.
    • Statewide voter registration systems.
    • Office practices and procedures.
    • Microsoft Office applications including but not limited to Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
    • Mohave County Personnel Policies and Procedures, and Department Regulations.
    • Organizing and coordinating election procedures.
    • Inventory control and management.
    • Making minor adjustments and operator-level maintenance of voting equipment.
    • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
    • Maintaining records and preparing reports.
    • Operation of personal computers, laptops, and peripheral devices.
    • Communicate effectively with other employees and vendors in person or by phone.
    • Function as part of a team to accomplish the goals of the department.
    • Research resource materials including the Arizona Revised Statutes, United States Constitution, Arizona Secretary of State’s Procedures Manual, Department of Justice Articles.
