Position Salary Range: $6,789 - $10,183 per month
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $8,500 - $9,167 per month.
Salary is commensurate with experience.

About the Department/Position: Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics, the Associate Athletic Director for Administration & Operations provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all athletic operations within the Department of Athletics. This position plays a critical role in planning, coordinating, and executing game day operations, event logistics, and facility use for NCAA Division II athletic programs. The Associate Director leads efforts to ensure compliance with NCAA, conference, CSU, and university regulations while developing and implementing policies that support efficiency, risk management, and student-athlete success. This position also collaborates closely with the Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics and the Division Fiscal Officer on budget development, fiscal monitoring, and resource planning to align operations with departmental and institutional goals.
Some athletic events take place during evenings and weekends, requiring flexibility in work hours. The role involves standing for extended periods and working in a variety of weather conditions. Occasional travel may be required, particularly for post-season championship tournaments with teams, as well as for CCAA conference and NCAA meetings.
Overview of Duties and Responsibilities: - Performs highly complex managerial work providing strategic direction and operational leadership for game day operations across all intercollegiate sports (currently 10 NCAA Division II programs).
- Develops and implements comprehensive procedures and policies for game day logistics, event execution, and facility usage, ensuring alignment with NCAA standards, CSU policies, and CSUDH institutional values.
- Oversees and manages professional and student staff in the execution of all athletic events, including setup, breakdown, scheduling, ticketing, concessions, and in-event operations.
- Leads departmental efforts in risk management, crowd control, event security, and emergency response planning in coordination with University Police, Risk Management, and the Dean of Students Office.
- Manage team competition schedules, directs team travel, and works with AVP for Athletics and Division Fiscal Officer to develop and monitor team budgets.
- Oversee the full range of fiscal operations for the Athletic Department, including managing budgets across General Fund, IRA, Trust, ASI, and TAP accounts.
Minimum Qualifications: - Professionals at this level usually have five - seven (5-7) years of experience and the equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.
- Two - three (2-3) years of supervisory/managerial experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituencies across campus and within the Athletics Department, fostering inclusive partnerships that enhance student engagement and operational success.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service, ensuring positive experiences for student-athletes, fans, and event attendees during athletic events and departmental interactions.
- Ability to effectively manage and deliver student-oriented athletic services on a campus with a diverse student body and staff, utilizing modern management and administrative techniques for work planning, scheduling, coordination, and event execution.
- Demonstrated ability in planning, organizing, and directing staff and student workers in the development and implementation of operational policies and procedures within the Athletics Department to ensure smooth game day and event logistics.
- Gather, analyze, and interpret data related to athletic event operations, compliance, and budgeting; reason logically to draw valid conclusions and make informed recommendations that support strategic goals.
- Possess knowledge of event management principles and practices to coordinate complex athletic competitions and departmental events efficiently and safely.
Preferred Qualifications: - Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Experience with staff supervision, budget management, facility scheduling/management software.
- Prior experience supervising staff in operations or events planning.
