Department of Health Services Community Programs (Housing for Health for Homelessness) and Office of Diversion and Reentry seek qualified candidates to fill emergency
Management Secretary III vacancies related to the homelessness crisis.
Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.
Before your initial work period ends, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.
Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment as
Management Secretary III .

DEFINITION: Acts as secretary to a deputy director in a large and complex County department.
Essential Job FunctionsReplies to personal and other correspondence, composing letters with or without dictation.
Screens office and telephone callers, meets the public, makes appointments, and arranges conferences and speaking engagements.
Directs callers to other departments and officials or to other individuals, divisions, or sections of the department where assigned.
Takes care of day-to-day inquiries or problems wherever possible.
Secures information on the status of pending matters and reasons for delay in the completion of projects.
Maintains office files and records, including those of a confidential nature.
Performs confidential and personal services, as requested.
Recognizes the need for revisions in office, clerical, and secretarial procedures, and makes recommendations regarding such changes.
Assign and supervise the work of other employees as needed.
Requirements Requirements to Qualify : OPTION I: One year of complex and highly responsible* secretarial experience at the level of Los Angeles County's class of Secretary V , Senior Secretary III , Senior Secretary IV , Management Secretary I , Management Secretary II .
OPTION II: One year of experience at the level of Los Angeles County's class of Staff Assistant I, assisting a manager of a line operation within a Los Angeles County department.
Has responsibility for the housekeeping and record keeping functions, and conducts administrative studies of internal operations and procedures as an assistant to the manager of a line operation in a County department.
Option III: Two years of highly responsible secretarial experience at the level of Los Angeles County's class of Secretary III , Secretary IV , Senior Secretary I , Senior Secretary II .
TYPEWRITING SKILL REQUIREMENT: Ability to type at the rate of 40 net words per minute.

IMPORTANT TYPING TEST INFORMATION: A qualifying typing performance test of 40 net words-per-minute will be administered to applicants who have not held a typing position in the service of the County of Los Angeles. Applicants must successfully complete the typing performance test at time of filing to qualify.
Applicants who have taken and passed the required performance test administered by another County department must attach a copy of their typing certificate or typing test result email to their application at the time of filing OR email it within seven (7) calendar days from the date of application filing to yramos@dhs.lacounty.gov.

Those candidates who currently hold or have held a typing position with the requisite words per minute in the service of the County of Los Angeles.
PHYSICAL CLASS II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
Special Requirement Information: All classes in the secretarial group perform duties composed of essentially the same basic activities and operations. Positions in these classes are allocated when the work of the supervisor requires full-time personal secretarial assistance. The level of secretary allocated is related primarily to the level of supervisor served.
*C omplex and highly responsible secretarial capacity is defined a s experience at the senior level with extensive knowledge of a program related area, processes and procedures, and experience in a specific subject matter.
Additional Information OUR ASSESSMENT PROCESS: Before the end of your initial work period, the appointing department will evaluate your performance. Those who achieve a passing score on this evaluation will be considered for permanent appointment.
