Home to approximately 46,000 residents, the 12.94 square-mile community boasts beautiful trees and grass-covered hills containing award-winning wineries, pick-your-own farms, lakes, golf courses, hiking trails, and vast open space. The City of Morgan Hill is a general law city, governed by a five-member City Council, which operates under a Council-Manager form of government. Morgan Hill is a full-service City with approximately 215 employees and a 2025/26 adopted budget of $256.0 million.

     

    The mission of the City Attorney's Office is to provide vigorous, cost-effective legal representation to the City of Morgan Hill. The City Attorney, directly appointed by the City Council, is responsible for administration of all legal affairs of the City. The City Attorney is supported by an Assistant City Attorney, Deputy City Attorney, a Legal Specialist, and a part-time Risk Management Analyst. The Ideal Candidate for the position of City Attorney will be an experienced legal professional who is eager to join a highly collaborative team that truly enjoys working together to advance the City Council’s priorities. This collaborative approach is embraced by the City Council as well as the Executive Leadership Team, under the direction of the City Manager. Additionally, the new City Attorney will do exceptionally well with strong management skills combined with superior people skills in this small and high performing organization. Complement this further with a positive approach, excellent writing and public speaking skills, and the results will surely be a winning combination!

    Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    1. A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
    2. This position requires an extensive background in the practice of municipal law. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge, skills and abilities would include seven years of legal practice, with at least five years in municipal or other public agency law.


    The salary for the previous City Attorney was $309,927; the salary for the incoming City Attorney is negotiable and dependent upon qualifications and experience.
