The Sheriff's Department is accepting applications for a promotional opportunity for current Sheriff's Department Law and Justice Office Assistants in a Custody Assistant role interested in advancing to Sheriff's Custody Specialists. Sheriff's Custody Specialists monitor inmate movement and behavior, and assist sworn law enforcement personnel in the control and supervision of prisoners within a Sheriff's detention facility, which requires interaction and engagement with inmates.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
1) Background: Prior to appointment, applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass an extensive background investigation, including a polygraph examination. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony.
2) Availability: This department is a "24/7" operation. Applicants must be available for all shifts, including mandatory overtime; refusal of assigned shift may result in removal from the list or termination. The incumbents will be required to work rotating, night, weekend, day, on call, and graveyard shifts, as well as holidays and weekends. Including mandatory overtime.
3) Travel: A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out the essential job-related functions of this position. Mileage reimbursement and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained.
4) Facility: Sheriff's Custody Specialists usually perform most duties in areas protected from prisoners by glass or screens within locked security facilities. Employees may be required to remain at the facility during their meal period.
5) Uniform: Some positions require the employee to purchase uniforms; there is a uniform allowance up to $700.00 per year.
6) Sponsorship: Please note San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Minimum Requirements
Experience: Must be a current Law and Justice Office Assistant with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, performing duties in a custody assistant role.

Examination : There will be a competitive evaluation of qualifications based on a review of the Application and Supplemental Questionnaire.
