    Senior Maintenance Team Leader (Streets)


    The City of Concord is seeking to fill one Senior Maintenance Team Leader (Streets) in the Public Works Department.

    What you will be doing:
    The Senior Maintenance Team Leader in Streets will lead crews performing the maintenance of streets, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, storm drains, creeks, drainage channels, and a variety of miscellaneous assignments of a public works nature.

    We are looking for someone who:
    • Has knowledge and experience of streets maintenance.
    • Is familiar with the maintenance and operation of heavy equipment used in streets maintenance.
    • Possesses a Class A or Class B driver's license.
    • Is a strong leader, with the ability to coach others in the context of streets maintenance.
    • Possesses exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
    • Displays a strong work ethic.
    • Is safety conscious, actively contributing to best and safe work practices and standards.
    • Has excellent communication skills, and can interact with supervisors, fellow crew members, and the public.
    • Can work independently and as part of a team, using safe and sound judgement.

    SELECTION PROCESS

    1. Submit a completed City of Concord application and the required supplemental question responses online at www.cityofconcord.org by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2025. Only application materials submitted online during the filing period will be accepted.
    2. All qualified applications and supplemental responses will be competitively evaluated, and those candidates demonstrating the strongest qualifications for the position will be asked to provide a current California DMV History Report.
    3. Candidates with a clean DMV history will be invited to participate in the examination process. If you are invited and are unavailable, we regret that we will not be able to reschedule you.
    4. Candidates that pass the panel interview will be placed on the hiring list, based on rank, for further consideration to fill the current regular vacancy, as well as others occurring over the next 12 months.

    Conviction History:
    If you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you have received a conditional job offer. If a conflict exists, you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict, except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances.     Examples of duties include, but are not limited to

    Provides lead direction to no fewer than two subordinate personnel. Plans, assigns, and schedules work of subordinate staff. Monitors status of events; performs necessary coordination, adjustments to schedules, intervention, and assignments. Performs in-service and basic training and evaluates training provided. As assigned, provides input and recommendations regarding training design, content, and scheduling.Provides input and recommendations regarding performance. As assigned, participates in performance evaluation interviews. As assigned, provides input regarding performance evaluation criteria and methods.Assists in developing and monitoring the annual performance based budget for the assigned section. In the budget preparation, provides detail for statistical historical data and recommends labor and materials requirements. May be assigned to track and report monthly the actual units of work expended and performance indicators.Orders or delegates ordering, materials, supplies, and equipment for the assigned maintenance section, including vendor review, selection, and price negotiation. Uses experience and knowledge of available products and sources to assure cost effective purchases. Maintains and completes required records and forms, such as maintenance logs, material requests, and work orders.Promotes the City's Mission to make Concord a city of the highest quality by providing responsive, cost-effective, and innovative government services; understands and subscribes to the Vision and Values Statement adopted by the City.Performs other duties as required.

    STREETS
    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES, INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

    1. Transports, inspects, starts up, operates, and shuts down equipment in a manner that ensures safety of self and others; protection of equipment and property; and the efficient accomplishment of objectives.

    2. Operates tractors equipped with backhoes, front-end loaders, and other attachments for purposes such as excavating and moving earth, debris and other materials; excavating for installations such as catch basins and drainage swells.

    3. Uses crawler tractors and rollers for purposes such as cutting and grading service roads and compacting asphalt and gravel on service roads, parks paths, parking lots, and "dig-outs" in City streets.

    4. Operates various other equipment such as dump trucks, vac-alls, and power equipment such as jackhammers and portable compactors.

    5. Occasionally operates power chip spreader, asphalt spreader box, forklift, small crane, high ranger, motor grader, and rental equipment performing skilled level assignments.

    Qualifications

    Knowledge and Abilities

    Knowledge of the methods, tools, equipment and materials associated with assigned maintenance division; potential hazards and the necessary safety precautions associated with one of these kinds of maintenance operations; training and evaluation techniques associated with the work.

    Ability to effectively lead, train, and evaluate assigned personnel; to remain calm in situations of stress; to assess events quickly and accurately; to effectively classify and prioritize service requests; to search and find information from available resource systems; to identify and solve practical work problems without technical supervision; to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; to maintain neat and accurate records; to work safely and efficiently under stressful or physically harsh conditions; to establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work and to provide maintenance services to meet the diverse needs of the broad customer service base unique to the assigned area of responsibility.

    Education/Experience
    Education: Satisfactory completion of high school, or the equivalent.

    Experience: Dependent upon the specific assignment, three to five years of related progressively responsible service, including responsibility for lead direction of subordinate staff.

    A Class C California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment. Dependent upon specific assignment, selected positions may require a Class A or B California Driver's License with Air Brakes endorsement.
