    The Management, HR and Information Systems Area in the Orfalea College of Business at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure line, academic year position as Assistant or Associate Professor in the primary area of Organizational Behavior/Human Resource Management. This position will require teaching at Cal Poly’s San Luis Obispo, CA campus and Santa Maria, CA in support of Cal Poly’s 2+2 Business program with a concentration in Management & HR (in partnership with Alan Hancock College). Faculty are also expected to maintain a strong record of research and provide service to the MHRIS Area, the College, and the University.

    Appointment at the Assistant Professor rank is anticipated; higher ranks will be considered. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience of the individual selected.
    • If appointed a the Assistant Professor rank, the anticipated hiring range is $135,100 - $149,300
    • If appointed at the Associate Professor rank, the anticipated hiring range is $150,300 - $166,200

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Doctorate or equivalent degree in Organizational Behavior, Human Resource Management, or a closely related field from an AACSB-accredited or equivalent institution. The Ph.D. should be awarded by the time of appointment in Fall 2026.
    • Experience and proficiency in teaching OB/HR at the undergraduate level.
    • Track record of scholarly publications and evidence of ongoing research activity.
    • Record of service on department, college and university committees.
    • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Demonstrated excellence in teaching with experiential pedagogies, and experience with inclusive and equitable teaching to a wide variety of students.
    • Strong interest and ability to teach organizational behavior and specialized human resources management courses such as performance management, training & development, change management, or people analytics.
    • Record of success in publishing in Management & HR journals categorized as A or A* on the ABDC journal list and evidence of an ongoing pipeline with potential for future publications in journals on those lists.
    • Record of leadership in service on department, college and university committees.

    SPECIAL CONDITIONS

    The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

    Subject to further planning and approval, Cal Poly anticipates a possible transition to semester-based year-round operations (YRO). Under YRO, full-time academic year faculty may be assigned to teach in two consecutive semesters (Fall/Spring, Spring/Summer, or Summer/Fall) out of the three semesters offered annually. The two-semester sequence will constitute the regular academic year appointment. Faculty may also be eligible to teach in the third semester for additional compensation, subject to departmental needs and University policy.
