    The Management, Human Resources and Information Systems Area of the Orfalea College of Business at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure-line, academic year position as Assistant Professor in the primary area of Management/Organizational Behavior. Faculty are expected to teach courses in organizational behavior and may be asked to teach specialized courses in change management, performance management, training & development, or people analytics with appointment beginning August 17, 2026. Candidate will be expected to teach courses in organizational behavior and may be asked to teach specialized courses in human resources management such as performance management, training & development, change management, or people analytics.

    Appointment at the Assistant Professor rank is anticipated. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience of the individual selected. The anticipated hiring range is $135,100 - $149,300.

    The Management, Human Resources, and Information Systems (MHRIS) Area within the Orfalea College of Business is dedicated to preparing career-ready leaders who pair an understanding of how businesses operate with strong interpersonal skills, enabling them to contribute immediately in the workplace and navigate complex organizational challenges with fairness, empathy, and data-driven insight. Our curriculum prepares students for a wide array of domestic and global career options, ranging from highly technical roles to people-oriented positions, giving them the flexibility to succeed in diverse professional paths.

    The successful candidate will join a dynamic, collegial faculty who are both accomplished teachers and scholars, with research published in leading journals such as the Journal of Applied Psychology, Academy of Management Journal, Organizational Research Methods, and Journal of Organizational Behavior.     REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Doctorate or equivalent degree in Organizational Behavior, Human Resources Management, or a closely related field from an AACSB or equivalent institution. The Ph.D. must be awarded by the time of appointment in Fall 2026.
    • Demonstrated record of high-quality research published in peer-reviewed journals or clear evidence of the potential to establish such a record.
    • Evidence of, or potential for, excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level.
    • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    The ideal candidate will have an interest in and ability to teach organizational behavior, a core course in the business curriculum. Interest in additional specialized courses such as change management, performance management, training & development, or people analytics is a plus. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated excellence in teaching with experiential pedagogies, and experience with inclusive and equitable teaching to a wide variety of students.

    SPECIAL CONDITIONS

    The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

    Subject to further planning and approval, Cal Poly anticipates a possible transition to semester-based year-round operations (YRO). Under YRO, full-time academic year faculty may be assigned to teach in two consecutive semesters (Fall/Spring, Spring/Summer, or Summer/Fall) out of the three semesters offered annually. The two-semester sequence will constitute the regular academic year appointment. Faculty may also be eligible to teach in the third semester for additional compensation, subject to departmental needs and University policy.
