Currently, there is one full-time Police Mechanic I/II vacancy in the Police Department . This position may be filled either the Police Mechanic I or Police Mechanic II level, depending on the applicant's qualifications. The Police Mechanic performs minor and major mechanical repairs to gasoline or diesel-powered cars, trucks, vans, quads, trailers, motorcycles and other power-driven equipment for the Police Department fleet; and performs related duties as assigned. Salary: Police Mechanic I: $4,846-$6,823 per month
Police Mechanic II: $5,615-$7,907 per month

Experience & Education and License/CertificateA combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Police Mechanic I: Experience: One year of experience performing routine automotive maintenance and minor repair work.
Education: Completion of formal or informal training at a level which provides the ability to read and write at a level required by the job including specialized training in the maintenance and repair of gas powered equipment.
License/Certificate: Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.
Police Mechanic II: Experience: Two years of increasingly responsible experience performing automotive and equipment maintenance repair duties.
Training: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by specialized training in automotive and equipment maintenance and repair.
License or Certificate:
Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.
Current ASE G1 Certification is required.
Additional ASE certifications desirable.
