    The Department of Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) at San Francisco State University invites applications for part-time lecturer positions (non-tenure track) in Clinical Lab Science for Spring 2026 term. The details of the program and available courses are outlined below.

    Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) - Lecturer

    The College of Professional & Global Education at San Francisco State University invites applications for a Lecturer (non-tenure track) position for the Clinical Laboratory Science Internship Program, up to full-time.

    Lecture courses

    CLS701 (Chemistry/Urinalysis): Overview of clinical biochemistry and renal function. Proper specimen collection, instrumentation, quality assurance, physical and chemical analyses of samples. Case histories and laboratory practice emphasize correlation of laboratory findings and clinical conditions.

    CLS731 Hematology/Hemostasis): Identification of blood cells, pathophysiology, hemostasis mechanisms, and disease states of hematological and hemostasis conditions. Theory and application of hematology procedures with emphasis on detection of abnormalities. Interpretation of clinical cases.

    CLS753 (Microbiology: including Parasitology, Mycology and Molecular diagnostics): The principles of diagnostic microbiology that apply to bacteria, fungi, parasites and viruses, including phenotypic and genotypic detection, identification and susceptibility testing using slide and culture evaluation. Correlation of principles with case studies. Molecular diagnostic theory and clinical practice.

    CLS790 (Serology/Blood Bank): Theory and practice of serology and blood banking, including immune system, autoimmune diseases, red blood cell antigens, compatibility testing, transfusion reactions, current serological methodologies such as ELISA and immunofluorescence. Correlation of laboratory findings with pathophysiology. Interpretation of case studies

    Clinical courses

    CLS 702: Clinical training in a clinical laboratory required for licensure in California and certification by ASCP. Evaluation of this clinical course includes document tracking and student guidance throughout the course.

    CLS 705: Clinical training in a clinical laboratory required for licensure in California and certification byASCP. Evaluation of this clinical course includes document tracking and student guidance throughout the course.

    CLS 707 (Winter only): Clinical training in a clinical laboratory required for licensure in California and certification by ASCP. Evaluation of this clinical course includes document tracking and student guidance throughout the course.

    CLS 709: Clinical training in a clinical laboratory required for licensure in California and certification by ASCP. Evaluation of this clinical course includes document tracking and student guidance throughout the course.

    SFSU’s CLS Internship Program

    The graduate certificate CLS Internship Program provides students the academic and mandatory clinical experience necessary to attain entry-level competency in the field of laboratory medicine and to qualify for licensure/certification in order to practice in the State of CA or outside. This educational model has a strong academic structure and offers intensive technical development. It also emphasizes the critical importance of leadership in the field of clinical laboratory science through the application of principles related to problem solving and evaluation, education, communication, research and management.

    Required Qualifications
    • Master’s Degree in field of study related to clinical laboratory medicine rotation.
    • Must hold ASCP MLS generalist certification, and California’s CLS MTA generalist license.
    • Previous academic teaching experience preferred with the ability to work collaboratively and successfully within a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural campus.

    Compensation

    Compensation will be based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications:

    The Instructional Faculty, Special Programs For-Credit (job code 2322) position is compensated on a per-unit basis, with rates that vary by academic rank and are aligned with CSU salary guidelines.

    The anticipated hiring base range will be determined by the hiring manager, taking into account experience and education. The final per-unit rate is calculated by the College of Professional & Global Education (CPaGE) and will be confirmed in the Letter of Appointment (LOA) prior to the start of classes.
