    The Position

    The Auditor-Controller’s Office is inviting applications for a motivated Property Tax Specialist to join their team and play a key role in promoting accountability and transparency in County government. This position offers an opportunity to advance your career and master the complexity of tax appointment and financial integrity.

    As part of the Auditor-Controller's Team, incumbents perform complex and difficult professional property tax and accounting functions, including the examination, analysis and verification of the property tax unit activities. The incumbent performs the full range of tax auditing functions, which require knowledge of public agency accounting principles and practices as well as specific principles and practices of property tax procedures and legal requirements of tax accounting. Supervision is provided by the Assistant Auditor-Controller. Responsibilities include technical supervision over staff assigned to the Property Tax Unit.

    The current recruitment is being conducted to fill one (1) full-time vacancy in the Auditor-Controller’s Office. The eligibility list established by this recruitment may also be used to fill future full-time, part-time, limited term, and extra-help vacancies for up to one year.

    Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Agreed Salary Increases and Winter Time Off:
    • 3.5% COLA increase effective 7/1/2026
    • 32 hours of Winter Time Off


    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    Experience and Education:
    Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

    Experience:
    Three years of property tax accounting and/or property tax auditing experience, preferably with public agency.

    Education:
    Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in accounting, business administration, economics, or a related field that included a minimum of 15 semester (or 22.5 quarter) units of accounting coursework. Additional experience as outlined above may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis, provided the applicant has completed a minimum of 15 semester (or 22.5 quarter) units of college level accounting coursework.

    License or Certificate*:
    Possession of a valid driver's license. .

    *Any license, certification, registration, or appointment required for this position shall be maintained (i.e., active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County. For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.

    SALARY -
    Salaries are based on a five-step range. Appointments are usually made at the beginning step with advances occurring at six months and the completion of each year thereafter. Salary rates are reviewed annually.
