As an Architectural Designer within the Project Design Unit (PDU), you will have the opportunity to build for a stronger tomorrow by applying your diverse background, education, and work experiences to performing architectural and engineering-related fieldwork, collaborating with agencies about their goals and programmatic needs, and independently translating those goals into drawings and specifications for construction projects across the State of Missouri. This person will independently utilize their expertise in Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) software to prepare construction drawings as well as work with a project team to develop project documents. This position will build a positive rapport with a wide variety of client agencies and contractors during construction to ensure projects are completed in a manner that meets the client agency goals while supporting the mission and vision of FMDC. This position is with the Office of Administration Division of Facilities Management, Design, and Construction’s (OA-FMDC) Design and Construction Team, supporting the Project Design Unit. - Prioritize excellent customer service for wide and diverse network of internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to internal teams, state agencies, state officials, contractors, and the public.
- Design a wide variety of architectural plans including roof replacement, interior office renovations, accessibility upgrades, exterior building improvements, historical renovations, and more.
- Collaborate with client agencies and contractors throughout the construction process to ensure projects are completed on time, on budget, and meet the goals and expectations of the client agency.
- Communicate technical information and directives to individual contributors to develop understanding and gain buy-in.
- Meet with client agencies to develop facility-related project goals and provide regular updates to clients on the progress of projects.
- Perform a wide variety of field verification of existing facility conditions that will define facility projects and to reduce unforeseen conditions to the greatest practical extent possible.
- Utilize AutoCAD design and drafting software to create, publish, and archive construction drawings used in the procurement and completion of construction services.
- Prepare drawings and specifications for projects, review the work product, resolve conflicts, and provide scheduling control of architectural project assignments, including drawing quality (using CADD standards, relevant codes, products, and standards), specification quality (using CSI format), cost estimate quality (using RSMeans format), and overall review of construction administration phase activities and project delivery requirements.
- Participate in management of the construction phase of projects by reviewing contractor’s shop drawings, verifying contractor’s compliance with the construction drawings and specifications, and complete the designer certification of contractor pay applications and contractor requests for change orders as needed.
- Follow all OA-FMDC health and safety protocols in addition to OSHA standards.
- Carry state-issued cell phone with you during work shift and bring work cell phone home with you after your normal shift ends. While off shift, team members shall respond timely to urgent texts, phone calls, voicemails, chat messages, and emails. It is pertinent to note that having your state-issued cell phone on does not mean you are on call after your work shift ends.

- Ability to manage numerous time-sensitive projects independently or as part of a team using procedures, processes, regulations, and practices applicable to the architectural/engineering industry.
- Exceptional problem solving, communication, conflict resolution, and mediation skills to gain buy-in and facilitate project completion.
- Ability to travel independently across the state, in order to perform on-site field work that may require climbing around and over a variety of facility building components in order to complete field verifications.
- Knowledge of the facility-related architectural/engineering industry, including design issue problem solving; understanding of the fundamentals of building codes, design standards, construction methods, and construction problem resolution; and a basic knowledge of construction procurement methodologies.
- Proficiency in using AutoCAD to prepare industry standard construction drawings, RSMeans, eBuilder (Trimble Unity Construct) project management software, Adobe, and Microsoft Office suite products.
- Bachelor’s degree with a focus in architecture/architectural studies or engineering/engineering technology. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
- Working knowledge of building codes and design standards.
- More than one year of relevant experience in the architectural or engineering industry preferred.
- Excellent attendance, work ethic, attention to detail, and critical thinking skills.
- Safety-first mindset with considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license from Missouri or from an adjacent state if you reside outside of Missouri.

The salary indicated represents a base pay rate. If the individual selected or the position is eligible for a pay differential (e.g., shift, security, or years of service), it will be added to the total compensation in your paycheck. A pay differential does not raise your base pay.
*This position is in an office environment and job duties may include prolonged periods of seated work at a desk, typing, written and verbal communication, problem solving, and the occasional ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds. Examples of job duties may also include prolonged periods of walking/standing/sitting/bending/driving, climbing ladders, working in inclement weather, and working on uneven or elevated surfaces.
