    This position will be located at 1730 E. Elm St., Jefferson City, MO with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of Environmental Quality, Brownfields/Voluntary Cleanup Section, Brownfields/Voluntary Cleanup Unit.

    You will be joining the Department’s Brownfields/Voluntary Cleanup Program (BVCP), where you will work as a project manager overseeing the remediation and redevelopment of contaminated properties and participate in the revitalization of our cities, towns, and communities. Our projects range from the cleanup of small gas stations and dry cleaners to large industrial complexes, and the redevelopment of properties from small businesses to large residential, commercial, and industrial projects.     • Oversee the investigation, remediation, and management of sites enrolled in the voluntary cleanup program.
    • Work with department contractors to provide environmental site assessments to municipalities and non-profits, aiding them in redeveloping their contaminated properties.
    • Travel to sites all over the state to oversee site cleanup and take environmental samples.
    • Help research, develop, and write internal and external guidance and policies related to site assessment and cleanup.
    • Communicate with site owners, developers, consultants, citizens, and government representatives involved in brownfields and site cleanups.
    • Conduct outreach to aid brownfields redevelopment, including the annual Missouri Brownfields Conference.


    To be successful in this position, a candidate will need the following skills:

    • Environmental Science : Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods to protect and improve the quality of the environment and its resources; and to monitor, control, abate, and prevent pollutants.
    • Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving : Uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
    • Oral and Written Communication : Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, consider the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
    • Reading Comprehension : Understands and interprets written material, including technical material, rules, regulations, instructions, reports, charts, graphs, or tables; applies what is learned from written material to specific situations.
    • Ability to use a computer and standard word processing, database, and spreadsheet software.
    • Ability to work both independently and with a group.
    • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license for travel (occasionally overnight).


    Equivalent to those typically gained by:

    • A bachelor’s degree and 0-4 year of relevant experience.
    • Preferred degree program would include a combination of the following: Environmental Law, Environmental Policy, Environmental Science or Technology, Chemistry, Biology, Physical Science, Geology, Forestry, Soil Science, Ecology, Wildlife Management, Agriculture, Animal Science, Natural Resource Management, Soil Conservation, or any scientific field. (Additional education or experience may substitute for the required education or experience)
