    Ready to make a difference in your community? The Marin County Probation Department is conducting a recruitment for Juvenile Corrections Officer II and Juvenile Corrections Officer II - Bilingual.

    ABOUT THE POSITION

    There are currently no vacancies; this recruitment is being conducted to establish eligible lists to fill future vacancies for Juvenile Corrections Officer II and Juvenile Corrections Officer II - Bilingual.

    Juvenile Corrections Officers provide supervision, custody and care of minors detained in the Marin County Juvenile Hall following established policy and procedure. Juvenile Corrections Officers play an important role in initiating the process of change and making each juvenile’s detention as positive and productive as possible.

    B i lingual assignments are distinguished by the required proficiency in the English language as well as a designated second language, in this case, Spanish and a caseload that requires the second language for the majority of the work performed. Proficiency requires the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form, sufficient to convey information and instructions to the public and other employees.

    ABOUT YOU

    Our Highly Qualified Candidate : The highly qualified candidate possesses a combination of education and experience that provides a general understanding of the issues surrounding a juvenile population in a criminal justice setting. The candidate will have experience monitoring the health and well-being of a group of youths, taking into account human behavior patterns and the social, economic and ethnic factors of the population and the ability to identify problems, assess alternative courses of action and exercise sound reasoning in order to arrive at logical conclusions. In addition, the ideal candidate must have personal and professional integrity; be highly organized; possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills; approach their work with enthusiasm; demonstrate a strong commitment to empowerment through communication, collaboration, and cooperation.

    They have strong written communication skills in order to prepare clear, accurate and well-organized reports. Additionally, the ability to verbally communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders, including various government and social agencies, court personnel, departmental staff, offenders, and individuals from a variety of backgrounds is essential.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    One year of experience in group supervision and counseling of minors in a detention setting at a level equivalent to the County’s class of Juvenile Corrections Officer I AND successful completion of California’s Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) in laws of arrest as mandated in Section 832 of the California Penal Code AND Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) Juvenile Officer Core training as mandated by the California Board of State and Community Corrections.
    Bilingual Testin g/Certification :
    Please note. For those applying for bilingual positions: A bilingual proficiency exam will be administered to ensure the candidates possess the appropriate skill level to meet the requirements.
    Certificates and Licenses :
    Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s license is required and must be maintained while employed in the classification and
    Willingness and ability to obtain certificates in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) prior to completion of the one-year probationary period and
    California’s Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) in laws of arrest as mandated in Section 832 of the California Penal Code and
    Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) Juvenile Officer Core training as mandated by the California Board of State and Community Corrections

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :

    Applicants must be 21 years of age or older by the application filing deadline date.

    In accordance with California Government Code, Section 1029 - 1031, and the California Corrections Standards Authority, Title 15, Section 131, Minimum Standards for Selection, candidates must be willing to and successfully pass a thorough background investigation process and complete and pass a physical evaluation and psychological evaluation prior to appointment. Each employee shall meet the following minimum standards as required:
    • Be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law.
    • Be fingerprinted for purposes of search of local, state, and national fingerprint files to disclose any criminal record.
    • Be of good moral character, as determined by a thorough background investigation.
    • Be a high school graduate or equivalent as defined by state law.
    • Be found free from any physical, emotional, or mental condition, including bias against race or ethnicity, gender, nationality, religion, disability, or sexual orientation, that might adversely affect the exercise of the powers of a peace officer.

    Felony law convictions or any other convictions identified in Section 1029 of the Government Code will be disqualifying.

    Physical/Mental Demands : Employees in these classifications must be found free from any physical, emotional, or mental condition which might adversely affect the exercise of the powers of a Peace Officer, as determined by a licensed examining authority in accordance with the California Government Code.
    Working Environment : Must be able to work shift assignments and any hours of the day or night, weekends, holidays, and work in a locked detention facility.
