Job Location: Southwest Missouri area (Barry, Newton, or Stone Counties). Applicant must reside in one of these counties or be willing to relocate to this area.

    Why you’ll love this position:

Missouri’s Animal Care Facilities Act (ACFA) Program regulates breeders, dealers, boarders, shelters, and pet shops to ensure that they meet state standards which protect animals, promote good health and husbandry, and protect the public interest. Employees have a passion for the health and welfare of animals and also ensuring those facilities which are licensed meet standards which are specified under the Animal Care Facilities Act and the rules promulgated in the Code of State Regulations.

We are looking for a full time Animal Health Officer (Consumer Protections Specialist) to inspect licensed facilities. If you want to make a difference every day, this may be the job for you!

The salary indicated represents the current regular pay rate for this position. If the individual selected is eligible for a pay differential (e.g., Years of Service), it will be added to total compensation on their paycheck. A pay differential does not raise base pay.

    • Inspections of ACFA-licensed dog and cat facilities throughout 5 counties in Southwest Missouri.
    • Carry out requirements in the Code of State Regulations in a fair and unbiased fashion.
    • Exhibit initiative, an ability to prioritize tasks, and good time management skills.
    • Daily travel in the assigned area, ability to set your own schedule, and document activities.
    • Employ skills which aid in proper investigation of complaints, including proficient writing skills.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Four (4) or more years of professional or technical experience in an Agriculture, Animal Science, Criminal Justice, Public or Business Administration or a closely related field. (Required experience, knowledge and skills may be obtained through work experience or through the completion of a relevant bachelor’s degree program)
    • Must possess a valid MO Driver’s License.

    Preferred Qualifications:

A general knowledge of animal health and husbandry or veterinary technician experience. Knowledge of animal care facility operations, licensing and inspection standards and animal welfare requirement. Previous experience in self-supervised work and management of day-to-day tasks. A familiarity or background in regulatory work.

Lack of post-secondary education will not be used as the sole basis denying consideration to any applicant.

    • 3 weeks paid vacation AND 3 weeks paid sick leave
    • 13 paid holidays per year
    • Insurance: health (medical, dental, vision) and free life insurance
    • Retirement: including up to a $75.00 per month match on savings plan
    • Up to 6 weeks paid parental leave for birth or adoption
    • And several additional resources including the SELF program (formerly EAP), discount websites, and healthy living incentives!

The State of Missouri offers an excellent benefits package that includes a defined pension plan, generous amounts of leave and holiday time, and eligibility for health insurance coverage.
