DefinitionThe City of Newport Beach seeks a motivated individual to join the Administrative Services Department!
Currently, there is one full-time opening for
Deputy Finance Director assigned to the
Finance Division . This position will manage, direct, supervise and coordinate the financial management and treasury activities within the Finance Division of the Administrative Services Department including financial analysis and long-range financial and strategic planning efforts; assist the Administrative Services Director in the management of the Accounting, Revenue, Purchasing and Budget divisions; and will serve as a member of the departmental management team. The ideal candidate will possess excellent oral and written communication skills, outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills, strong interpersonal skills, and demonstrate strong ethics and integrity.

Retirement: The City offers an excellent benefit package and membership in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). The retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS and the employee is required to contribute 8% (or half the normal cost) of pay towards their retirement benefit.

Experience & Education and License/CertificateA combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Six years of increasingly responsible professional level public sector finance experience, including two years of responsible management and supervisory experience.
Education: Completion of major coursework leading to a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a closely related field. A Master's degree in Business or Public Finance and/or additional experience is desirable.
License/Certificate: Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.
