Job Summary Reporting directly to the Director of USCG Licensing, the incumbent will facilitate all aspects of cadet STCW and United States National licensure requirements by ensuring departmental processes are current and fulfill expectations and requirements as set forth by the Code of Federal Regulations(CFR) International Maritime Organization (IMO), United States Coast Guard (USCG), National Maritime Center (NMC) and Maritime Administration (MARAD). This includes collaborating with and coordinating efforts with the State Maritime and United States Merchant Mariner Academies licensure coordinators. The incumbent will use judgement and discretion reflective of a thorough knowledge of the Academy’s USCG approved programs. They will refer to policies and practices for guidance to ensure a clear understanding of requirements. Participates in planning and improvement activities, and develops, recommends, and implements methods to meet programmatic or administrative goals.
Department Summary The United States Coast Guard Licensing Office ensures that all required Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (commonly referred to as STCW policies) established by the USCG are implemented and executed by cadets in their undergraduate major. Cadets in each license track program must demonstrate competence in all STCW competencies and complete the sea service requirements of our USCG program approval.
Key Qualifications - Working knowledge of and ability to apply standard theories, principles, practices, and techniques applicable to the US Coast Guard Licensing Program to develop conclusions and make recommendations.
- Thorough knowledge of policies, procedures, and outside regulations pertaining to the US Coast Guard Licensing Program.
- Aptitude in the research, development and evaluation of policies and programs, including skill in the collection, evaluation, and interpretation of data to develop sound conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
Education and Experience - Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university. Three years of technical or administrative experience. A graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Salary and Benefits Anticipated Hiring Range: $67,164 - $80,268 per year
Classification Range: $63,288 - $92, 208 per year
