Hourly rate: $24.00 per hour

About the Office The Office of Research and Statistics (ORS) is the State Bar's data and research hub. ORS provides research, analytics, and reporting on California's legal profession to support planning, policy, and decision-making across the organization. ORS is also the central source for statewide data on California attorneys.
Position Summary ORS seeks an undergraduate or graduate student to work in the San Francisco office. The position provides the opportunity to gain experience in data analysis, automation, and reporting. As the largest legal aid funder in California, the State Bar administer grants to over 100 nonprofit organizations that provide legal services to low-income and disadvantaged clients. The intern will play a key role in streamlining data workflows by automating processes to ingest, clean, transform, analyze, and report on legal aid data. Through this work, the intern will develop a deep understanding of legal aid funding and contribute to improving data-driven decision-making that supports access to justice.
The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have a desire to learn and gain experience in research, policy, and data analysis.
- Currently enrolled in a 4-year college or university pursuing a bachelor's or graduate degree with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Interest in automation and streamlining workflows.
- Experience with programming or scripting languages (such as Python, R, or similar) for automating data cleaning, transformation, and analysis.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
- Commitment to the mission of expanding access to justice.
- Demonstrated collaborative skills working with variety of stakeholders.
- Available to work 10 weeks full-time from May or June through early August 2026.
- Hybrid remote schedule, working 1 day per week in San Francisco office.
- Candidate must reside in CA and be able to go into the office at least once a week.

Definition Under the general supervision of ORS leadership and analysts, interns perform a variety of assignments based on the needs of their office.Assignment areas may include conducting research, data collection and analysis, data visualization, report building, dashboard customization, and other tasks as assigned.
Examples of Essential Duties - Assist with various projects within ORS.
- Provide analytical, technical, and administrative support to the division.
- Perform data entry and research information for future use and analysis.
- Participate in team meetings and collaborate with others in the development of regulatory projects.
