    ABOUT THE POSITION

    The Clark County Fire Department, Fire Prevention Bureau is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Fire Inspector position. As a member of our team, you will provide fire inspections on commercial and public buildings as well as provide public education. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and develop relationships with a variety of professionals, as well as be able to interpret and explain fire code. Knowledge of the International Fire Code (IFC), applicable Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS), hazardous materials, and construction is desirable.

    This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education and Experience:

    Effective: 9/24/2025: An Associates Degree in Fire Science or its experience equivalent (related experience may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis), two (2) years of demonstrated fire prevention or five (5) years of suppression experience; or two (2) years of an ICC-Certified Building or Fire Code certification; must obtain and maintain ICC certification as a Fire Inspector I and as a Nevada State Fire Service Inspector I within one (1) year of hire date.


    All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application.     Working Conditions: Duties are subject to performance under a variety of hazardous, stressful and inclement situations and may include weekend, and day or swing shift assignments.

    Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a medical examination performed by our examining physician.

    License: Must possess a valid Class C Driver's License.

    Citizenship: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Please note, Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers for any employment positions.

    Note: It is a condition of employment that any fire service employee hired into the Fire Department after January 1, 1993, not use tobacco in any form.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    (It is not to be assumed that each example listed shall be performed by all employees, nor that any one employee shall perform only the examples listed.)
    • Inspects general commercial, hotel, industrial, hospital and public assembly buildings for fire hazards, efficiency of fire protection equipment, adequacy of fire escapes and fire exits and general compliance with fire prevention codes, laws and regulations.
    • Advises and instructs owners in the removal of fire hazards and makes recommendations for reducing potential hazards.
    • Reports violations of fire safety regulations and established safety standards to appropriate owners and occupants and prepares written notices to follow up action.
    • Participates in Countywide prevention programs by giving talks and showing films at schools and at other group meetings.
    • Inspects the storage and use of explosives or inflammable materials.
    • Determines if buildings meet fire regulations before business licenses are issued; prepares necessary records and reports; inspects hotel casino properties; inspects new businesses and handles fire hazard complaints in the hotels.
    • Reviews and examines building plans for fire standards and fire systems.
    • Inspects facilities for fire hose connects and fire hydrants, and draws maps for fire suppression.
    • Participates in fire drills and attends regular classes in fire fighting, fire prevention, equipment maintenance and related subjects.
    • Performs similar and related duties as required.
