    About the Department:
    The City of Austin, Austin Technology Services (ATS) Department provides and empowers the City’s business partners and Austin’s residents, visitors and businesses with sustained, reliable, and efficient technology services, infrastructure, and telecommunications.     Job Description:

    IT Systems Administrator Senior

    Purpose:

    This position is an expert in a focused technology. Using comprehensive knowledge and competency, this position performs duties to support the research, evaluation, and recommendation of software and hardware products, and maintenance and development of the organization's enterprise level information technology (IT) systems operation.

    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:

    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
    • Performs advanced focused architecting, optimizing, implementing, configuring, managing, administering, troubleshooting, maintaining and monitoring one or more of the following: infrastructure software, hardware, systems/applications, middleware, servers/storage, and IP-based telecommunications.
    • Establishes and implements IT policies, governance, standards, and security.
    • Makes independent decisions for procurement of technical solutions in their focus area.
    • Creates, documents, publishes, and/or performs maintenance procedures and ensures all installations are in accordance with COA’s specifications and IT standards/governance.
    • Assists in planning, designing, procuring and delivering software and hardware purchases.
    • Ensures appropriate product specifications.
    • Provides costs analysis.
    • Installs new specific software releases and/or upgrades including researching, testing and implementing new technology.
    • Participates in disaster recovery planning and testing, including fault tolerance and detailed disaster recovery plan maintenance.
    • Communicates and interfaces with members of the IT, vendor, and user communities.

    Provides technical or project leadership, training, and guidance to others. May provide leadership on work assignments.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
    • Knowledge of infrastructure technologies.
    • Knowledge of application and/or operating systems.
    • Skill in mentoring and monitoring daily work activities of others.
    • Skill in documenting and maintaining complex application and process or configuration information.
    • Skill in providing day-to-day system/application administration and/or system/application administration in support in a variety of work environments.
    • Skill in installing and maintaining applications, operating systems, or equipment.
    • Skill in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and to implement solutions.
    • Skill in selecting and using training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new concepts.
    • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
    • Ability to view the big picture when involved in a project and make decisions.
    • Ability to quickly become familiar with emerging technologies.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Graduation with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to the job plus two (2) years of experience.
    • Experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years.


    Licenses and Certifications Required:

    As required based on advanced job role.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Strong experience in an enterprise storage solution.
    • Strong experience in an enterprise data protection solution
    • Some experience with some level of project management.


    Notes to Candidate:

    Overview of Position:

    This role will be a key member of the storage team, within the Enterprise Infrastructure Group, which is responsible for operation of two major platforms:- Enterprise storage and data protection under NetApp and Rubrik- Server and desktop virtualization under VMWare and Citrix This team also handles ServiceNow tickets for those systems and services. This role will provide engineering and operational support for the above solutions, as well as assist EIG and other technology teams as needed.

    Reporting location - The Grove -2400 Grove Blvd, Austin, Texas 78741

    This position requires a background investigation, CIJIS.

    Must reside in the state of Texas. This position currently is hybrid, and onsite presence is required as operational needs determine. Standard business hours, and on call rotation.

    Pay Range:

    $80,490 - $107,309

    Essential Employee:

    This has been designated as an Essential Employee position. In the event of a City-designated emergency, Essential Employees provide services that impact the public health, safety, utility services, and welfare of members of the Austin community and other employees and ensure the continuity of essential operations. In such an emergency, Essential Employees may be called back in, may be required to modify their schedule, may be assigned to a City-designated work site, or may be retained on site to assist with operations and recovery.

    Travel:

    If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

    City Government

    The City of Austin is a progressive, full-service municipal organization operating under the Council-Manager form of government.
