    Description:

    JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:

    The Natural Resources Supervisor II is a leadership role responsible for overseeing multiple natural resource teams and ensuring the protection, preservation, and sustainable management of county-owned natural resources. This position combines technical expertise in ecological monitoring, land management, and data-driven decision-making with supervisory and strategic leadership responsibilities. The supervisor will guide teams in implementing monitoring programs, analyzing data to inform management decisions, and ensuring effective collaboration both internally and with external partners.

    SCHEDULE: This position operates on a four day work week, Monday-Thursday from 7AM-5:30PM. Primarily functioning in- office with some remote work .

    COMPENSATION:

    Hiring Range: $110,000-$120,000 USD Annually

    Compensation will be determined based on education, experience and skills.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    • Oversee the development, implementation, and management of projects and programs to protect and preserve natural resources. Identify key ecological stressors, determine methods to prevent or mitigate issues, and direct the implementation of management operations.


    • Formulate policies, procedures, plans, and standards for existing and new natural resource programs. Determine program needs and opportunities, ensuring successful implementation of stewardship projects and initiatives.


    • Oversee ecological research and long-term monitoring programs, ensuring data is strategically applied to guide land management decisions, prioritize resource allocations, and support adaptive management across teams


    • Ensure accurate mapping and classification of plant communities and habitats, including implementation of baseline ecological inventories.


    • Review and approve procurement of equipment, tools, and project materials to meet project requirements and standards.


    • Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of natural resource professionals, including other team supervisors. Foster a cohesive vision, collaborative approach, and positive team culture. Administer routine personnel matters, conduct performance evaluations, clarify roles and responsibilities, and assist staff in navigating shifting workloads.


    • Submit personnel records and reports as required by the county. Assist and advise subordinates as necessary, resolves problems as non-routine situations arise, and ensure adherence to established policies, procedures, and standards. Communicate changes in policy and procedures to direct reports and implement them as directed.


    • Facilitate team efficiency and cohesion during periods of growth, identifying opportunities to improve collaboration, communication, and workflow across teams.


    • Collaborate with federal, state, local agencies, county departments, staff and volunteers to develop and implement plans and policies related to natural resource management.


    • Oversee and participate in public outreach and education activities to promote stewardship services and natural resource management programs.


    • Develop and enhance working relationships with public and private resource organizations in support of stewardship services and programs. Ensure effective working relationships between staff, other departments, and external groups.


    • Direct and manage the creation of reports, management plans, and documents to inform leadership, staff, and external partners, integrating monitoring and research data into practical management strategies.


    • Collaborate with staff and partners to pursue grant opportunities and funding to support natural resource programs .


    • Stay current on best practices in natural resource management, ecological monitoring, and applicable regula tory requirements


    • Other duties as assigned.


    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Experience: A minimum of five years working experience in natural resource man agement, ecological monitoring , or related field , with at least three being in a supervisor role.

    Education: A bachelor's degree in natural resource management, ecology, environmental science , or related field.

    *Note: An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

    Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities :

    • Master's degree Ecology, Natura l Resource Management , environmental science , or related field


    • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor professional teams in a collaborative environment.


    • Strong analytical skills, including experience interpreting ecological data and applying results to land management strategies.


    • Knowledge of current best practices in natural resource management and applicable regulatory frameworks.


    • Experience developing and managing long-term monitoring programs.


    • Familiarity with adaptive management frameworks and data-driven decision-making.


    • Colorado Department of Agriculture Qualified Supervisor License


    • Certified Forester


    • Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner


    • Certified Ecologist


    • Certified Wildlife Biologist


    • Certifications from the International Society of Arboriculture
