As the
on-call Food Service Worker, you will:
- Prepare, cook, bake, and serve well-balanced and nutritionally focused meals in accordance with established menus and dietary guidelines
- Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health standards in all food preparation and service activities
- Set up and operate kitchen equipment and food service lines for lunch and dinner service
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation by washing and sanitizing dishes, kitchen equipment, appliances, food storage areas, and dining spaces
- Perform routine cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, and light housekeeping within kitchen and dining areas
- Monitor and report food service issues, discrepancies, or improvement opportunities to supervisors in a timely manner
- Document required information accurately as requested by supervisory staff
- Handle laundry tasks, including folding towels, washcloths, blankets, kitchen linens, and detainee clothing
- Work safely and professionally in a secured facility environment with regular contact with juvenile detainees
What You Bring- Hands-On Experience: One (1) year of food service experience in large-scale or institutional food preparation.
- Specialized Expertise: Knowledge of methods of cleaning, preparing, cooking, and baking food, food service utensils/equipment and their proper uses, sanitation and safety measures in food-service environments, as well as cleaning and maintaining food service or public-use areas.
- Technical/Industry Background: Knowledge of mass food preparation techniques, sanitation practices, and safety procedures in institutional settings.
- Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Food Science degree from a college or university accredited by an agency recognized by the US Department of Education and Safe Serve completion.
- Possession of a Safe Serve Certificate.
- Custodial or high standard kitchen cleaning experience.

- This recruitment is being used to fill an existing open position and may be used to fill future openings for up to six (6) months.
- Work hours for this position will vary and may include weekend and evening shifts.
- Prior to employment the successful candidate must :
- Pass all job-related examinations/tests necessary to demonstrate required knowledge, skills and abilities, as determined by the hiring authority at time of job posting.
- Pass a criminal history background check, including fingerprinting, through law enforcement agencies.
- Within 30 days of appointment, the successful candidate must:
- Obtain a food handlers permit.
- Obtain or possess current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Complete a Tuberculosis Test (and yearly thereafter.)
- Complete Blood borne/Airborne Pathogens training.
- Receive the Hepatitis B vaccine series or sign a waiver.
- Incumbents may be :
- In contact with individuals housed and fed in the facility such as juvenile detainees.
- Exposed to environmental hazards associated with food preparation and service and chemicals related to sanitation of the equipment and food service area.
