skilled, detail-oriented Laboratory Technician II to join our Public Works team and support both the
Wastewater and Water Operations Divisions.
This role is perfect for a self-motivated team player who takes pride in precision and purpose. We’re seeking an experienced technician who understands that
every sample matters—because behind each one is a family’s drinking water and the health of our waterways.
This position is a journey- level classification and receives general supervision from the Laboratory Supervisor

Qualifications Education and Experience: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Equivalent to an associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, or related sciences.
- Two (2) years of experience performing chemical or bacteriological tests in a laboratory or treatment plant, or experience equivalent to a Laboratory Technician with the City of Brentwood.
Licenses and Certifications: - Depending on assignment, possession of a valid California Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record must be maintained throughout employment.
- Possession of a Grade II Laboratory Analyst certification issued by the California Water Environment Association (CWEA) or American Water Works Association (AWWA), to be maintained throughout employment.

The examination process will consist of: Review of applications for minimum qualifications for the position and to ensure all materials have been submitted.Written Exam - Applicants possessing these requirements will be invited to take the written test. The examination will cover elements of the knowledge and abilities identified in the job description and is tentatively scheduled for the week of
March 9, 2026. Eligible List: All applicants that pass the examination process will be placed on the eligible list which is good for at least 6 months and may be extended up to an additional 18 months. This eligible list will be used by the City of Brentwood to fill all current and future openings in this classification as long as the list is active.
