The Job
The Land Use Services Department (LUS) - Building and Safety Division is recruiting for a Land Use Services Permit Coordinator to perform a range of basic to advanced duties, including coordinating permits and interpreting, explaining, and ensuring compliance with applicable ordinances, codes, and regulations. This role provides customer service to the public, participates in meetings, researches and responds to land use and structural development questions, reviews plans, and provides information regarding permitting requirements. Duties may also include plan check assignments, serving as an assistant project manager on Building and Safety projects, reviewing building and construction plans and permit applications, evaluating plot plans for conformance with the County Development Code, ensuring designs address mapped hazard overlays, verifying required reports and studies are submitted, and confirming that required utilities are available.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Pre-Employment Process: Applicants must successfully pass a background check prior to appointment.
Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.

Minimum Requirements
Candidates MUST meet the Education Requirement and one (1) of the Experience Options to qualify.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT Fifteen(15) semester/twenty-three (23) quarter units of completed college coursework from an accredited college or university in project management, construction management, business administration, engineering construction technology, or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCE OPTIONS EXPERIENCE OPTION 1:
Three (3) years of full-time experience as a Senior Land Use Technician in San Bernardino County or in an equivalent position as a lead worker explaining regulations and reviewing development or construction plans for conformance to regulations and development/building codes.
EXPERIENCE OPTION 2:
Three (3) years of full-time technical civil engineering or closely related work experience which includes the application of engineering formulas, theories, and practices to design, plan review/plan check, construction, inspection, or repair work pertaining to development and/or improvement plan projects.
SUBSTITUTIONS
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION 1:
An additional 15 semester (23 quarter) units of completed college coursework from an accredited college or university in project management, construction management, business administration, engineering construction technology, or a closely related field may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION 2:
Successful completion of the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION:
One (1) year of additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education.
Note: Candidates must provide a list of transcripts unless the candidates possess a Bachelor's degree in a qualifying area. All documents should be uploaded upon completion of the application. Qualifying degrees or coursework must be completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.
Degree Equivalency Evaluation: Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied with an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service showing equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.
Desired Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess prior experience in project management for construction projects, have excellent customer service skills, and be familiar with San Bernardino County Development Code. Experience in monitoring progress of contract work, permit preparations, and ensuring compliance with plans and specifications are highly desired.
