    The Position

    Licensed Professional Engineers provide professional services involving the application of engineering principles and data, or activities in connection with public or private utilities, structures, buildings, machines, equipment or projects impacting the public welfare or the safeguarding of life, health or property.

    Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

    This position is located within the Structures Division in Carson City. Incumbents will perform federally mandated bridge/tunnel safety inspections, statewide. Incumbents collect and analyze bridge/tunnel condition data, evaluates bridge/ tunnel safety, and develops bridge maintenance/repair recommendations. This position is responsible for performing routine, Non-redundant steel tension members (NSTM), in-depth, special, and damage/emergency bridge/tunnel inspections consistent with the requirements of the National Bridge Inspection Standard (NBIS) and the National Tunnel Inspection Standards (NTIS); collecting Specifications of the National Bridge Inventory (SNBI) and element level inspection data; collecting Specifications for the National Tunnel Inventory (SNTI); developing bridge repair strategies and producing bridge inspection reports using inspectX Bridge management system software; preparing bridge inspection schedules; performing truck permit evaluation; and preforming various bridge management tasks. This position is responsible to supervise routine bridge inspection staff and travels up to 50% of time. Candidates should expect travel up to one (1) week per month statewide. NOTE: THIS RECRUITMENT MAY BE USED TO UNDERFILL A SUPERVISOR, PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER. INCUMBENT MAY PROGRESS TO THE NEXT LEVEL AFTER MEETING THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE, AND WITH APPROVAL OF THE APPOINTING AUTHORITY.

    To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Current Licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) Special Notes A person that is a licensed Professional Engineer in another state must become licensed as a Professional Engineer in Nevada within six months of appointment as a condition of employment. Special Requirements A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Registration as a Professional Engineer is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Additional Position Criteria This position requires having successfully completed a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) approved comprehensive bridge inspection training course or have completed this course within 1 year of appointment as a condition of employment. This position requires having successfully completed a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) approved comprehensive non-redundant steel tension member (NSTM) training course or have completed this course within 2 years of appointment as condition of employment. This position requires having successfully completed a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) approved comprehensive tunnel inspection training course or have completed this course within 3 years of appointment as condition of employment. physical agility exam The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.
