    A Code Compliance Officer position is available with the City of Fort Worth Code Compliance Department - Neighborhood Investigations Division. The Code Compliance Department maintains Fort Worth's status as a clean, livable city by ensuring properties comply with City ordinances. Code Officers in the Neighborhood Investigations Division investigate violations such as high grass, open and vacant structures, junked vehicles, accumulation of trash/debris, contaminated bulk waste, and zoning issues.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • HS Diploma/GED supplemented by specialized training in code enforcement, building codes, and zoning regulations or related field.
    • One (1) year of general experience in building or construction trades, zoning, or enforcement of local, state, and federal laws or regulations.
    • Valid Driver's License.
    • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a State of Texas Code Enforcement Officer Certificate or Officer in Training Certificate within eighteen (18) months of hire.
    • Candidate selected for hire must pass Pre-Employment Drug Screen, Physical and Criminal Background check.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Candidates who have higher levels of education.
    • Customer service experience handling escalated customer complaints and dispute resolution experience.
    • Experience maintaining an active case load and achieving established quantitative performance benchmarks.
    • Experience working within a team environment.
    • Public presentation experience.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office to include Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
    • Bilingual - ability to speak, write, and understand Spanish.

    The Code Compliance Officer job responsibilities include:
    • Inspecting single family homes, apartment buildings, businesses, vacant lots and other properties for the presence of Code violations and hazards; ensures compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, statutes and regulations.
    • Enforcing building codes and zoning regulations for residential and commercial properties.
    • Performing complaint investigations by responding to alleged violations; interviewing complainants and witnesses, taking photographs of violations, documenting activities and updating records.
    • Maintaining records and reports of inspections and activities; preparing reports as required.
    • Responding to public inquiries in a courteous manner; providing information; and resolving complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
    • Assisting in preparing case reports for court or administrative proceedings; testifying in court and at administrative proceedings as necessary.
    • Participating in joint enforcement efforts with the Environmental Services and Fort Worth Police Department to effectively manage difficult cases that require multiple disciplines

    Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions.

    Physical Demand

    Medium work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.

    Medical Program

    The City offers two plan options through Meritain Health, an Aetna company.

    The Health Center Plan – Offers employees and their family’s

Employees can visit any one of the three City of Fort Worth Employee Health Centers and receive guaranteed same or next day appointments for sick visits. Also, services are available at any one of the five satellite locations that serves employees across the city.

    The Consumer Choice Plan – Is offered to employees at no cost or low monthly premiums to cover eligible dependents and provides the financial benefits of a Health Savings Account (HSA).

    • Preventative services are covered at 100% on both plans.
    • Prescription Drug coverage including mail order pharmacy are also included.

    Vacation

    Eligible for 3 weeks of vacation: After successful completion of probationary period (usually
    6 months), employees may take time off for rest, relaxation, vacation, illness, religious observances, and personal business.

    Holidays

    Available on the first day of employment, the city provides employees with paid holidays, including two personal holidays.

    Wellness Program

    The city’s Healthy Challenge Wellness Program rewards all full-time, benefit-eligible employees on the city’s health insurance. The Healthy Challenge Program utilizes a points system. Participants may earn points throughout the year (Jan. 1-Dec. 15) for completing specific program activities and participants can redeem points at the end of the year for a cash reward. By participating, individuals can earn $150, $200 or $250 by accumulating program points.
