(Administrative Support Assistant I) INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY Compensation and Benefits Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $3,680 - $3,864 per month Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,680 - $4,517 per month
- This full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week) position is temporary and expected to end on or before 1 year from the date of hire. Extension of this assignment is contingent upon sufficient additional funding and satisfactory performance.
Area of consideration is limited to on-campus, state funded employees only.

Job Summary Under the general supervision of the Director of the Bulldog Testing Center, the Testing Assistant applies standard guidelines, procedures, and practices in performing check-in, proctor, and clerical work assignments in support of the Bulldog Testing Center. These assignments require close work with students, non-student test takers, instructors, proctors, and co-workers to facilitate smooth, timely, accurate and secure test administration and processing. Incumbent must be able to work a flexible schedule.
Key Qualifications - Basic knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
- Working knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Fundamental writing and presentation skills to effectively communicate standard information.
- Ability to:
- Use standard office equipment.
- Use standard word processing and related computer software packages.
- Identify and solve standard problems and refer more complex problems to appropriate staff.
- Perform basic mathematical functions.
- Respond to routine inquiries and explain standard policies and procedures to others.
- Effectively communicate effectively through phone, email and in-person correspondence.
- Work methodically and effectively with others and interact courteously and appropriately with constituents.
- Handle stressful situations, think critically, and take directions.
- Identify and solve standard problems and refer more complex problems to appropriate staff.
- Organize and plan work to effectively manage multiple priories.
- Meet all requirements established by various test vendors for the administration and scoring of tests.
- Work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment.
- Stand for long periods, move about the testing room and be fully alert during any assigned exam proctoring sessions.

Education and Experience - Completion of a high school program or its equivalent.
- One year of comparable experience working in an office environment.
- History of regular attendance and positive performance appraisals.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including Saturdays as needed
- Preferred Skills:
- Bachelor's degree or completed college coursework in test measurement and statistics.
- Knowledge of standardized testing procedures, scheduling, and planning techniques.
- Knowledge of registration software (e.g., Register Blast preferred).
- Knowledge of specialized testing software (e.g., Digital Desk & Operations preferred).
- One or more years of recent professional experience with standardized testing policies and procedures at a university or in an academic setting.
- Experience with PeopleSoft.
- Experience with computer-based testing.
- Experience with Canvas.
- Experience supervising student assistants.
- Experience with scanner and Scantron equipment.
- Experience to be fully functional in all technical aspects of work assignments including use of standard office equipment, word processing, office systems and ability to use a broader range of technology, systems, and packages (including working knowledge of MS and Google word processing suites, along with the competency in using technology to administer exams).
- High level of demonstrated integrity, as well as the ability to work with confidential information in a professional manner.
- Possess a professional demeanor in both dress and manner and must be punctual and reliable.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise strong time management and organizational skills, and to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail in a multi-tasked, deadline driven environment.
Department Summary The Bulldog Testing Center (BTC) is a campus facility that helps both faculty and students with their testing needs. We provide a proctored, secure, quiet, relaxing environment for test takers and a simple process for faculty to set-up exams in person or through email. The BTC administers early-take, make-up, and full class exams. The BTC also provides an excellent testing environment for department exams such as Red/Orange Tag, and US Constitution Test.
