    Want a behind-the-scenes look at how a public library really works? Join our team as a Library Intern for the City of Newport Beach! We are seeking two part-time Interns at the Central Library branch assigned to delivery services. Duties may include delivering books and supplies to libraries, outside agencies, and other department facilities; receiving and storing books and supplies; assisting with event preparation, tracking, setup, and cleanup of facilities and equipment for group and rental activities; and assisting with coordinating arrangements with instructors, rental groups, and maintenance personnel. The ideal candidate will be friendly, organized, ready to be on the move, and will have safe driving practices.

    SELECTION COMPONENTS:
    • Application Evaluation - Applications will be accepted until Frida y , November 14 , 202 5 at 5:00 p.m. or 150 applications - whichever occurs first . Please apply immediately as this recruitment may close at any time.
    • Online Examination - Tentatively scheduled for the week of No vember 18 , 2 025.
    • Virtual Interview - Tentatively scheduled for the week of December 1, 2025 . Passing applicants will be placed on an eligibility list that may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur throughout the City.


    SCHEDULE:
    This position works a flexible schedule of up to 19 hours per week and will include days, nights and weekends based on the needs of the department.

    Experience & Education and License/Certificate

    A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

    Experience: One year of paid or unpaid experience in the public sector is desirable.

    Education: High school graduation or equivalent with current enrollment of a degree program. Enrollment in graduate school is highly desirable.

    License/Certificate: Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.

    Disaster Service Worker: In accordance with Government Code Section 3100, City of Newport Beach employees, in the event of a disaster, are considered disaster service workers and may be asked to respond accordingly.

    Benefits

    This position is Part-time/Seasonal and is provided the following minimum benefits:

    Part-time employees are enrolled in the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS) beginning on their first day of employment. The total defined contribution to the plan is 7.5% of your compensation of which the City pays 3.75%. The City does not participate in the federal Social Security program. Your benefits may be reduced if you work for an employer who does not withhold Social Security taxes from your salary.

    Medicare: Federal mandate requires all employees hired or rehired by any government agency on or after April 1, 1986 to participate in Medicare. The City matches the employee's Medicare contribution, which is 1.45% of salary. Enrollment and deduction amounts are subject to change based on negotiated terms and additional laws.

The City Manager is responsible for carrying out the policies and ordinances of the City Council, for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the City, and for appointing heads of departments.
