    Under the direction of the City of Austin’s Human Rights Officer, this position will support the We All Belong Campaign, engage in community engagement, and will manage the Anti Hate dashboard. This position will work to inform the public on ways to report hate incidents and will manage events throughout the City of Austin that align with anti-hate.

    Job Description:

    Purpose:

    Under general supervision, conducts intake, screening, investigation, conciliation, settlement, and recommends resolution of quality improvement of departmental programs.

    Job Description Summary:

    Austin Equity and Inclusion - Human Rights Division champions the fundamental rights and freedoms of all Austinites through a proactive, human-centered approach grounded in dignity, safety, and belonging. The division works to expand access to services, promote inclusion, and eliminate systemic barriers. provides leadership, guidance, and insight on equity to improve the quality of life for Austinites. The Department strives to achieve the Office vision of making Austin the most livable city in the nation for all while building and sustaining a culture of equity across the city.

    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:

    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
    • Monitor department/program quality indicators.
    • Coordinate with other agencies/personnel for certain aspects of mutual research or investigation.
    • Counsel/facilitate interventions for the prevention of errors involving department/program plans.
    • Prepare training plans and documents, train staff regarding program implementation as directed.
    • Follow up on client or customer complaints (e.g. 'hot line' calls or CAF's).
    • Conduct fact finding and/or informational survey by interview or other means.
    • Conduct investigations for department/program plan.
    • Conduct checks of department/program sites (i.e. clinics, offices) to assure compliance with policies and procedures.
    • Research information as requested and/or needed.
    • Compile data and write informational reports.
    • Perform tasks related to department/program surveying and reporting.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Business Administration or in a field related to the job, plus three (3) years of related experience.
    • Experience may substitute for education up to a maximum of four (4) years


    Licenses and Certifications Required:
    • Valid Texas Driver License


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience in human rights and equity work
    • Experience with ArcGIS or similar dashboard skill set in managing and collecting data
    • Experience with community engagement and strategic planning

    • Support the We All Belong initiative by coordinating and implementing inclusive community engagement activities-organizing events, listening sessions, and outreach efforts to build trust and participation among diverse residents; proactively connect with community partners, advocacy groups, and neighborhood associations; attend and document community meetings to capture input and identify themes; and ensure accessibility, translation, and representation of historically underrepresented voices in all engagement efforts.
    • Manage and maintain initiative-related data systems and dashboards by collecting, organizing, and updating engagement and participation metrics; support development of user-friendly dashboards (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools) to visualize program impact; troubleshoot and resolve basic technical issues with virtual meetings or online tools; collaborate with IT or communications teams to ensure data accuracy, accessibility, and transparency; and assist in generating visuals or reports that translate data insights into meaningful, community-focused outcomes.
    • Contribute to clear, consistent, and inclusive communication efforts for the We All Belong initiative-drafting reports, summaries, newsletters, and presentation materials for internal and public audiences; maintaining alignment with the City’s equity and inclusion messaging; assisting with development of outreach content and updates for digital platforms; and supporting documentation and evaluation of engagement activities to inform future strategies and share progress with leadership and the community.


    Austin Equity and Inclusion is hiring a part time temporary Program Specialist within the Human Rights Division. This position will be responsible for equity work with the We All Belong Campaign and the Anti Hate dashboard.
    • The We All Belong Campaign, powered by Austin Against Hate, connects with community partners committed to ending hate and bias. This position will support the data and management of the We All Belong website where acts of hate can be reported, website visitors can explore Austin police data, and visitors can learn more about how to participate in events - click here for more information https://austin-against-hate-austin.hub.arcgis.com/
    • The Anti Hate dashboard - this position will act as the lead for the Anti Hate dashboard which is an ArcGIS based platform for reporting hate incidents. This will include informing the public of the dashboard and how it works in the form by engaging with the community.
    • Planning and hosting monthly events to foster belonging.

    City Government
